webfact
One thousand police on alert for red shirt boat caravan this SaturdayBy Digital ContentAYUTTHAYA, March 13 - Over one thousand police are prepared to tighten security to prevent any untoward incident this weekend as the pro-government red shirt movement plans a mass rally by both land and water on Saturday.Police Region 1 commander Pol Lt Gen Nares Nanthachote said that 1,277 police officers are on standby to prevent any untoward incident, while police also set up a dozen checkpoints in the Ayutthaya provincial seat and its outskirts. They will also monitor the situation in at risk high rise buildings in four locations.Gen Nares expressed confidence that there will be no violence on that day.Supporters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) are scheduled to rally by boat caravan March 15, sailing in the Chao Phraya River from Wat Kasattrathirat pier via the Pasak River and disembark at Chandrakasem pier, before marching to its main rally stage in the provincial sport stadium in the evening.UDD chair Thida Thavornseth urged the UDD supporters to closely monitor the situation saying that Saturday's rally in the old capital is aimed at clarifying the current political situation for them, as well as rehearsing for future nationwide protests.Another red shirt leader Nisit Sinthuprai said the protesters will embark in 200 boats, starting from 9am. rubl
I assume that Ayutthaya doesn't fall under the area around Bangkok for which the Emergency Decree is still valid? Anyone can rally or commemorate. It's only in Bangkok where anti-government protesters are to be protected in such way?
thesetat2013
They should put more police and checkpoints around the protest sites of the Dems for this event as the Reds and especially the UDD have a history of violence. More chance some will come to Bkk to stir up trouble than a PDRC member to go to Ayuttaya to make trouble. Popular Post plachon
Has Thida just had too much Ribena before going on stage or has she become a fully-fledged Redskin member now to impress the crowds? Or it could just be severe blushing as another great porky passes her lips? Not that any of the leaders (on either side) are too prone to being ashamed of spouting bare-faced lies.
Scamper
As Thida crosses the Deleware, she will have an opportunity to bring us all up to date with the UDD's vision of the future - readiness for an armed uprising, denigrating the independent agencies and the judicial system, and secession.

fab4
One would think that with a "red shirt boat caravan" scheduled for this Saturday, the ideal policing solution would be a few dozen Navy Seals. But I suppose they're all busy on secret drug busting missions, in between sessions moonlighting as PDRC thugs guards.

P.S. fas·cism noun \ˈfa-ˌshi-zəm also ˈfa-ˌsi-\ : a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government : very harsh control or authority Sounds like the govt run by Thaksin if he wasn't pretending to be a communist (which is sort-of the traditional opposite of a fascist.)

You are probably right, and I am glad someone is protecting these peaceful protesters. They don't get the same privileges as the police are giving to guarding terrorists. Still waiting for an arrest or even an investigation to over 90 attacks on protesters in BKK with children blown to pieces for your obvious pleasure. You allude to PDRC protesters and innocent citizens not being worthy of protection, yet I bet you agree 100% that scum should be protected. You are one mixed up individual.

Artisi
A number of re-enactments of the Titanic wouldn't go astray for the red-shirt flotilla, or maybe Drake could assist with a few fire ships launched against the red armada.

MGP
The title of the news is not accurate. It should read like this: One thousand police to escort red shirt boat caravan this Saturday That's the way it is.
