Japan tops up tribunal (#KhmerRouge)

Japan, the Khmer Rouge tribunal’s top international donor, has disbursed another $1.83 million to the court, embassy officials have said, bringing that nation’s total contributions to more than $80 million.

According to Takayoshi Kuromiya, counsellor at the Japanese embassy, Japan contributed the sum to the UN component of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia last month.

“Japan continues to support the judicial process of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. At the same time, it is also important that [a] wide range of countries will support this tribunal, which was established based on a resolution of the General As­sembly of the United Na­tions,” he said in an email.
