Maroon Watcher
Can you help?My wifes passport expires July 28th. (She has applied for a new one, as our 90 day is in May.) can we go on holiday for 3 weeks in April with the old passport? Thanks
thepool
An expired passport/or one with less than 6 months validity is invalid for travel ! Unless a new passport is obtained the only holiday possible is one that does not involve crossing International borders. ubonjoe
Normally the her passport would of been cancelled as soon as the application for a new passport is received. Which means she should not attempt traveling outside the country.using it. How long does it take to get the new passport back? For many countries it only takes a few weeks to get it back. PoorSucker
Depends on where you are going. Thailand requires that your passport is valid for the length of your stay. Laos requires 6 months validity.
Lite Beer
As said the old Passport is usually invalidated when you apply for a new one.

The passport has not expired. We have applied for a New passport The Philippine Embassy gave back the old (Unexpired) passport. That passport has all the stamps. We will/want to go to Philippines during Songkran holiday. New passport will be ready when we get back in time for next 90 day. (otherwise we could have just gone on the old passport - no need for 6 months expiry rule cos we are not tourists...?)
thepool
If your wife is Filipino and returning to her own country and the passport is , as you insist, valid , what is your question about ?
ubonjoe
What 90 day are you writing about? If you mean the 90 day reports you do it will not be required if you leave the country. Why didn't she wait to get her new passport until she made the trip to the Philippines? She could of used both passports for entry to Thailand showing her re-entry permit in old passport. Maroon Watcher
If your wife is Filipino and returning to her own country and the passport is , as you insist, valid , what is your question about ? She is Not returning to Philippines We are going for a holiday/vacation Then returning to Thailand "home" I just wanted to know if we can A. because we have applied for a New passport. B. because of the 6 month rule.... Note: had we not had to apply for the passport EARLY (To receive the New passport in time for the 90 day dabacle) I would have expected to use the old passport? (But then there is "B." wot about the 6 month rule?) Hope that's clearer.
thepool
Best check the country(s) you intend visiting for passport validity requirements. Secondly check to ensure the passport held is indeed valid for travel. Edited March 16, 2014 by thepool
ubonjoe
Many countries require 6 months passport validity. All of ASEAN does wit the exception of Thailand that allows for entry with passport long enough for your length of stay for some countries but not all. You can check passport validity requirements here: http://www.staralliance.com/en/services/visa-and-health/
