Any experience with AXA health insurance in Thailand ?

For brokers try AA Insurance advertised on this site. They're based near Pattaya and have good English communications by email and also native English speakers. I insured my car through them with AXA and received excellent communications from them and the policy documents were delivered by post just as promised. Second year I have insured through them.

I have car insurance through AXA. Had a major accident last year that was a bit of a nightmare (the other insurance didn't want to pay, injuries involved, etc.) and AXA was a pleasure to deal with. They went way beyond what I expected to get everything resolved. Very happy with them.

I have AXA first class insurance for my car and AXA health insurance. Very happy with the service and communication. Only had to use the health insurance once when I got bitten by a stray dog. Presented my card at the hospital, didn't have to worry about anything.

By the way, don't get bitten by a stray dog! It could cost you 10.000Baht+ in Tetanus and anti rabies treatment...

Rabbies is 400-600 per shot, need 5 shots from memory. How does it cost 10000+???

Is there rabies in Thailand?

I see in Bali there have been a number of deaths from rabies, and there is local/religious opposition in the government's attempts to clear up the thousands of strays.

I've had an AXA health insurance "executive" plan for 5 years now. It seems OK, but then I've never had to claim. 'No claims' bonuses don't seem to exist here, as my premium has pretty much stayed the same.

let us know what you think about AXA after your first claim. This is the only time that you need them and ultimately find out their true worth

I had the same experience with AXA on car insurance. Easy to deal with. Many years ago I had a vehicle stolen with insurance from the big "V" in Thai insurance. Never, I repeat never use vehicle insurance from "V". They never paid no matter that I sued them twice in court and won both times. They are great for accidents but terrible for any theft.

Good advice by many, Esp JLCrab.

That is exactly what I did roughly a year ago. Asked the hospital that had treated me in their ER multiple times for stupid accidents of my own doing, just who the heck were the top two company's that they would recommend for "inpatient" coverage if I was to buy a policy. They took me to a Thai Gal in charge of insurance and she printed out for me two pieces of paper. One was for AA Insurance Brokers, The second was for BUPA.

Having stated the above, I have not filed a claim nor would be qualified to state what is best. That is just what Bangkok Hospital, a more expensive chain of hospitals that are spread around Thailand gave me for the two best options.

Good explanation, only I am a foreigner and I live in Thailand and 400-600 is the going rate, unless they also charge nursing fee and may be blood test at each visit ;)

'No claims' bonuses are not common for health insurance plans, though there is one Thailand based company that does offer them. But then premiums should be expected to rise each year, so either you are getting an undeclared NCD, or their premiums are not/hardly rising, which seems suspicious.

More likely AIA in stead of AA.

AA Brokers have a policy which is underwritten by Allianz.

Actually appears to be a really good policy with excellent coverage USD$1 000 000 per year and one of the lowest premiums.

AXA is a very good company but when it comes to health insurance it is also one of the most expansive one's.

I am also currently in the market for health insurance and going crazy looking through all the plans.

But as i mentioned the AA one seems to be the best in all aspects

There was a thread about it in the Pattaya forum about someone who went to PBH and got charged several thousand.

Just because there was a thread, it does not change the fact that rabbie shots are 400-600 baht depending on the clinic

Which one? Dog hotel?

And what does that have to do with OP or the rabbie shots?

Did you feel like little trolling?

I suffered an heart attack in Udon Thani Jan 2009, I was insured with AXA (free through my UK bank a/c)

They really looked after me, the guy who dealt with me on the phone from AXA was based in Sydney, Australia (he told me their office also covered SE Asia)

I spent a week in private room in Aek Udon hospital, they then arranged for a Dr to fly from BKK to escort me back to BKK heart hospital where they then covered me for an angiogram and stenting. I spent four days in private room there then they put me in a 4 star hotel and paid for a weeks cardio rehab with Limo transfer each day between Hotel and Hospital. I was really looked after by AXA, thank the man upstairs i was insured, they rang me every day to make sure all was ok, and re-assured me not to worry as I was fully covered.

The dog issue is a very important one,, during the day the dogs in our village are like puppies, playing and running around but come dusk and they turn into barking psychopaths, if you do get bit YES many dogs have rabies but watch out in Laos and Cambodia very much worse,, be careful, be very careful. You made a good and valid post.

Welcome to my club, i want to take travel health insurance to Thailand with me, i was hoping for a one year policy but the insurers here stated to me that the day i return to Australia the policy is null and void (stops) so if i travel to Thailand and after one week i have to come back to Sydney for a short meeting my insurance stops,, i can't understand that so i am also looking for health (travel) insurance just in case Thailand change the visa rules about health insurance but i don't really know who to go with,, Bupa advertise a lot here in Sydney but they are very expensive and only valid for when i am out of the country, where do i go, i'm stuffed on this one.

More posts please.
