TAT campaign to lure office ladies from Hong Kong

BANGKOK: -- As part of the Tourism Authority of Thailand's intensive marketing plan to revive the important Hong Kong source market, TAT will target office ladies, who love to visit Thailand on weekends to have a good time with spas, detoxes, makeovers and other activities.

TAT will use Muay Thai and fashion and beauty products to attract this hot, up-and-coming traveller group.

TAT Governor Thawatchai Arunyik will lead a roadshow to Hong Kong after it removed its "black alert" travel warning on Wednesday following Thailand's lifting of the state of emergency the day before.

The market had been severely hit by the black alert because all insurance policies were cancelled. Hong Kong arrivals plunged 60 per cent in January and 24 per cent in February.

The Hong Kong market could recover fast, Thawatchai said yesterday. Travel agents here quickly put back their advertisements for their Thailand tourism packages on the day after the lifting of the most severe travel alert.

Prior to the political turmoil, Thailand had enjoyed a boom in Hong Kong tourists. Visitors from Hong Kong spurted 23 per cent to 581,871 people last year, with spending of Bt19.34 billion.

Titiporn Manenate, director of TAT's Hong Kong office, said the tourism authority hoped to lure 55,000 visitors from Hong Kong for Songkran next month, up from more than 40,000 last year.

However, the target for the whole year was set at the same as last year, as the high season during the first two months, which included Chinese New Year this year, never came.

Besides office ladies, TAT also focuses on young travellers and families.

There are 30 airlines running more than 200 direct flights per week between Thailand and Hong Kong, including AirAsia which just started a non-stop service from Chiang Mai to Hong Kong in January.

However, carriers have also opened direct flights from Hong Kong to new destinations such as Danang in Vietnam, Malaysia and Myanmar, while Japan has become a new competitor poaching some Hong Kong tourists from Thailand, TAT officials said.

Srisuda Wanapinyosak, TAT's executive director for East Asia, said that to bring back Hong Kong travellers, TAT would emphasise social media and mobile applications more. It will also hold a Thailand Street Fair on April 5-6 at Causeway Bay, featuring Thai food and culture. It will also give away some sticky rice with mango to visitors.

Among the other tourism products that TAT will offer to Hong Kong travellers this year are marathon running, weddings, young traveller products such as local designs and culture studies, and eco-tourism, such as hiking, rice farming and palm plantation visits.

Nicholas Tse, a well-known celebrity in Hong Kong, Taiwan and China, will visit Krabi and Chiang Mai in May to shoot a "Cook Man" TV episode, in which he will flaunt his Thai cuisine cooking skills.

When I worked in Hong Kong, I had a campaign to lure office ladies too.

Guess TAT needs to hangout in Lan Kwai Fong.

With fashion and beauty products, or did you I use the Muay Thai ploy?

Lure office ladies with Thai boxing. Makes sense to me.,

Ummm, we went to a Muay Thai event, my Thai friend and some Thai and western ladies . I was not overly impressed, and after about 10 minutes I wanted to go and break those annoying horn players. However, the western ladies with us could barely contain their animal lust, oooing and awing over the "sexy" Thai boxers. Oh why can't you have a body like that, or ohhhhhhh he's so hawt, and he's adorable, were some of their comments. I looked at my friend and I believe the reassuring comment was, don't worry, a few hits to his face and he won't be so pretty, and get me a beer. Score one for why Thais make good buddies. Anyway, women are women and they have their fantasies too, none of which usually involves hanging out with older pudgy farangs. tongue.png

For shopping I doubt that these upscale office ladies would be buying street market goods. My understanding is that in the top malls the global luxury brands (clothes, jewelry, watches, etc) are more expensive in Thailand than even in Hong Kong. As far as spas, makeovers, and so on I don't know. Thailand's supposed "price advantage" for many items (except for perhaps the hotel room itself) just isn't there anymore no matter what kind of lures and snares TAT dreams up.

Out of the 50 announcements approx. over this last year, how many of these have been well applauded by TVF posters ???

Near nil, is it that TVF posters have no idea ??? but of all the thousands of readers how can we all share the fact that TAT are spewing out ANYTHING that they think justifies the colossal budget they receive.

Most Ideas are seemingly from tired brains that need to be made redundant, or schooled again on the real issues--as we have all said-"get the scams stopped"-you have to have people come back AGAIN and word of mouth is the best way to promote Tourism -the tourist do this automatic.

Get out of your offices, look at the filth, clean the beaches and water, dual pricing, all the basics that TAT are failing to do.

See to all these including more safety, the people will return if not carry on with your ridiculous promoting.

"TAT will target office ladies, who love to visit Thailand on weekends"

blink.png ....I wonder how many Hong kong Office ladies visit Thailand for a weekend jolly currently ?

My bet the number is somewhere 0 and 5,

lets think of it this way....assume said ladies finish work Friday in HK at 17:00, (and from I worked there it was usually later) you need to be at the airport two hours before your flight, so you will not be taking a flight until late evening HK time, then you have nearly a 3 hour flight, but the time you have d*cked around getting through Swampy and transport into BKK, one suspects you will not get into the hotel until early hours of Saturday morning, now seeing as its the weekend and you have worked hard all week, you want a lie in Saturday and arise out of the pit early to later afternoon, have late lunch/early dinner and you will have a maximum of 6-8 hours before everything closes for the day in Thailand....wake up late sunday morning and back to the airport to fly back to HK, cos you dont want to be late for work Monday morning

Based on this premise, I only have one question for the TAT Governor....What are you smoking ?

The spending power not too much compare with mainland China as you can Naraya handbag in airport price tag not a problems just pick and put in basket, the hotel here are very cheap and comfortable compare with Hong Kong where small and expensive, the Thai food still a top favorite for Hong Kong people in Hong Kong simple Thai dishes cost about 1,000 HKG about 4,000 Thb.

" It will also hold a Thailand Street Fair on April 5-6 at Causeway Bay, featuring Thai food and culture. "

Will it also include a lesson how to wear a bulletproof vest in the right fashionable style? Only in case...?

Lure implies deceit. Can't they just attract?

I mean doesn't a fly trap lure flies?

with the OP having

"target office ladies, who love to visit Thailand on weekends to have a good time with spas, detoxes, makeovers and other activities."

maybe 'to lure' is the correct description rolleyes.gif

Did TAT remember to mention the dual pricing at the Thai boxing events at Lumpini? 230 Baht for Thais and 1000-2000 for the Hong Kong ladies? Not a very nice way to welcome guests I'd say...

Has TAT ever managed to "lure" people with their nefarious schemes?

Well there was that Bangkok international Film Festival when TAT flashed the cash to 'lure' international film stars (and Steven Seagal) onto their red carpet.

Unfortunately as so often happens with public money here a lot of it went missing and it all ended rather unsatisfactorily with hardly any stars showing up, the two American partners in jail for bribery and the woman from TAT also facing jail if she's ever extradicted to the US.

TAT are wasting their time. Events have overtaken them. Things are not going to get any easier for the tourism industry, nor for many other industries come to that. The best thing that can be done is to shut down TAT and the the other quangos and use what is left of their budgets to pay the farmers.
