The OP asked specifically about 3 places; Phuket, Samui, and Cha-Am and most replies have been less than helpful. I will try to help by giving my opinion.

If you are mostly interested in night life with the ladies, then by all means go to Phuket or Samui. Beaches are good but scammers and thieves abound in those destinations, plus they are a long way from Bangkok should you need to go for any reason during your stay. The beaches in both are beautiful, but finding low priced accommodation near them may be difficult. If you are interested in a more quiet place for a relaxing stay and a few beer bars with a few expats fits the bill then I would recommend Cha-Am, only 2 hours from Bangkok and 30 minutes from Hua Hin further south if you want a bit more action occasionally. Plenty to keep you occupied for six months in the Hua Hin/Cha-Am area. I suggest you google the area and spend a little time reading about what it has to offer to see if it is a fit.

  • 3 weeks later...

The longest I spent on a beach was Haad Rin on Koh Pa Ngan in 1992.

It has changed no doubt - I got a bungalow on the beach for 60 baht a night, bought 12 bottles of water for 20 baht, got lunch for 10 baht and spent 100s of baht in the 2 bars and only night club at night.

I never would have thought but after 6 weeks I had had enough.

I once posted in reply to an OP from a person looking for a peaceful beach away from Pattaya but within an hour or so time wise of same. I replied telling him of the beach in Bang Saray, the Navy School Resort and of course the beautiful Nan Ram beach in U-tapao and the even more beautiful part of it that might not be discovered if one did not bother to drive an extra couple of hundred meters past the barrier where the soldier stands to find it.

People posted in reply amazed that I had "given away" the secret place by naming it and that I could now expect it to be over run by Farangs in string vests etc. I at first thought they were joking but soon began to realize that they were not (exactly the same as here and now).

It is beyond my comprehension that type of totally selfish self centered thinking, what a "Dog in the meager" attitude. If I discover something that is both beneficial and beautiful to me I really enjoy seeing others getting the same pleasure from it and am only too happy to share it with them.

Is it any wonder there are so many grumpy old men on this forum when you see the way their mind works.

so what ypour saying is that all the beaches should end up like on sumui and pi pi ?? look at the movie,,

i say let the younger ones who want to dance all night keep them, and me, who is still only 53 and others like me will keep the quiet ones,

the beach i go to there isnt even a bar there,

there is 2 stalls that sell food, and one stall that sells a fes trinkets,

its a beautiful place and all the times we have been there as a family ive never seen another falang,

not saying they dont go there but not many,,lol,

no bars how would a falang manage,,lol

and no girls, bloody hell it cant be thailand,

what some have got to think about is thailand isnt just about bars and girls,,,,

Here , this is where I would go, less than 10 minutes to the major town etc, low rents, great food.

My own piece of paradise.

From room to beach, just walk across the road ! No tourism, no commercialism, unspolit.

I also know of such a beach!...best to just keep it a secret so it doesn't get ruined by the influx of farangs.smile.png

Girls attract the farangs, Not good beach.................lol.

Try Ko lak, Jump in a Taxi from Phuket, and go North, Its about 1.1/2 hours all New, Scandinavian style, beaches as far as you want to walk,

Nnot a big place but if its the quiet you want that's the place. Also you can get rooms very cheaply. just across the road from the beach. If you get board just jump on a bus and go back to Phuket for a few days.
