My Friend had to change 5 perfect original looking ones on his 7 Y.O Vigo. What a shock for him.!!. You could pick bits off with your thumb nail.Turned to biscuit due to heat according to B.Quick. Anyone sufferd the same fate here.?..

It's now been determined that it was likely old tires that caused the crash that killed Paul Walker. Very possible since a car like that probably sat a lot of the time and only taken out on occasional show drives, still feel like the driver should have been able to have better judgment in how the car was handling and most certainly should have checked air pressures if that was the case and then an educated eye should have been able to see any potential problems. I know he was supposed to be a race driver but there is enough of those out there who are clueless and only know what hired people tell them when it comes to their cars.

The Tires were not left behind, and that didn't go down well with a few young fitters who slung em in the back of his truck. Cant think why.biggrin.png

7 year old vigo 5 tyres so you think 'B' Quick faked him yes??

During my time amongst Motorbike racers over the years I came across many who said I only know how to race em don't know anything much about how there set up or how they work. laugh.png

Does anyone remember when wheels were balanced"On Car" .?. This spun and balanced all the front end and rear geometry on FW Drive Cars, and it felt right, if a bit underspeed back then . Not sure this off Car is any good here,if DUMB KID NOPs buggering about with the balancer. Near Enough isnt my way. Had to Call the Boss over a few times for a Re Do. Then they introduce On Car up to 130 MPH balancers ,Perfect Every time, where are they now.?.

On a serious note i do remember balancing on car facilities in UK and frankly, an experienced driver should be able to feel from your butt whether car and tyres are in harmony with the road, whether balanced off car or on car.

Believe it or not I use to do a lot of miles with my work in UK and getting them balanced at service intervals while they were wearing with the mileage kept them in good shape up to the change time.

Here I find the wheel balance at my local service outlet I use, seems good and they have not disapointed me yet.

And as long as you have a tyre presure guage like Trans, no problem. laugh.png

Kwak.I get a bit paranoid with the Civics noisy front end, even Pilots cant shut it up to Toyotas deacent levell. So its a Mazda 3 next if the new Civics liquid suspension gets left off here. As for Hi Cliks, i live in Nan and go our Beach Shack near Krabi a lot.coffee1.gif

I had a Ford Granada that l couldn't stop steering wobble at speed, l took it to a heavy goods vehicle tyre shop where they balance the wheels in situ, cured the problem. thumbsup.gif

Same Same.

As for tires - incipient heat, whatever the degree, on rubber is cumulative. I also have a m/c and when I occasionally get a flat due to nails (why so many nails on the roadsides of Thailand I'll never understand, even knowingly you avoid the 'wash'?), I change both tire and inner w/o question.

'an experienced driver should be able to feel from your butt whether car and tyres are in harmony with the road, whether balanced off car or on car.' Touche'

Then again, rotating the tyres at each and every oil change is beneficial.

Thats what they did at my last and final visit to Toyota, they didn't even look to see or take any notice they were one directional tyres, change em back myself, and lower the 55psi they put in the tyres, phew !!

I notice new tyres are very quiet, but it doesn't take long for them to get noisy - presume this is due to climate, but just guessing.

When they rotate my (non-directional) tyres, they remove the two front tyres from the wheels, remount them on the opposite wheels, then put them on the back. Why would they do this if they are non-directional? Wouldn't deflating them potentially harm them?

My Way. Drop the Front to the Back once only, then change em. When the Cars new i look for ones have the least stick ons, then trade the new OE Tires for Mich, and put the least balanced O.E.rims ones on the front. Leo Time.41C.wub.png

Some new tyres are quiet depending on the type and make.

Rotation is done to evenly wear the tyres in relation to back and front wear and road camber differences.

Deflation is natural unless punctured or rim seal faults, naa problem for tyres.

Yes new tyres are quiet - though in my case they seem to get noisy v quickly - the heat maybe?

Yes I'm clear on why tyres are rotated.

I'm saying that the tyre guy deliberately deflates and removes the tyre in order that it will still rotate in the same direction after switching it from one side of the car to the other. I'm wondering if deflating/reinflating it will potentially cause more harm then any benefits in retaining the rolling direction.

When i started this Topic it was a case of a Ferang who went nowhere in 7 Years,so a Ton standing in the heat for that time must be a factor. If you sit by the roadside listen to the same models passing but often the same Altis for example is very noisey . I would prefer to never rotate, but i do,like a Sheep now im older, just bunged the part worn on the least driven wheels, got new for where it mattered

Not supposed to switch sides with modern day tires that is old for biased ply not steel belted unidirectional, now just rotate front to back straight and maybe if spare is the same and same rims put it on or at least have it rotated out and mounted on one of the rims, but most don't do that these days.

As 'Warby' says and what your guy does is not usual practice.

As long as the tyre is taken off and refitted back in a professional manner it should not be harmful.
