A mate and I were at a Subway in Pattaya and were just about to pay for our sandwiches when my mate noticed that the girl put the wrong sauce(s) on his. He pointed it out to the girl that it was incorrect and she just started to argue about what he did infact order. Instead of arguing back we just smiled and left the sandwiches on the counter and left without paying. Mate tells me he would've taken the incorrect one (and I believe him) if it wasn't for her attitude. Curious if she ended up paying for the two that we left there.

It's not acceptable to walk away without paying even though it was wrong, it's good old loss of face for the girl. Be thankful that she did not report you to the bib. Show with your feet by not stepping back in to the shop.

Why did you leave yours?

Sounds like cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Would.ve been more arguing cause it was all on one bill. We then both went off to get lunch elsewhere.

If she smiled and said "solly' that would have been the end of it. As I said, if she handled it better we'd taken the incorrect one and just laughed it off. She was incorrect twice, one with the sauce and once with the bad attitude that took a millisecond to come to the fore.

If she had done her job there would have been no reason for loss of face.

Serves her well.

At our shop we have the sweetest counter girl but she fouls things up almost as often as she takes a breath. Customers love her as she smiles and apologizes whilst taking 3 times longer than anyone else to do the job. We keep her on because she is popular but she aint getting a raise anytime soon. Repeat customers prefer to wait for someone else to help them. biggrin.png

I understand, but Thais don't. They do not understand how to rectify an issue especially if it means handing money back or providing customer service. They panic and all sorts of <deleted> happens, for every person walking off like OP (which I would do in Europe) there is another getting his ring kicked for a few quid.

no connection to thailand, just bad or no training and the customer is always wrong attitude. same thing happend to me several years ago in the airport in barcelona... i got yelled at by the girl at the register cause i handed her the wrong money (euros, shekels, whatever) and she had no patience for me to find the correct change... could be anywhere..

So a female member of a Subway staff put the wrong type of sauce on a sandwich.

And this incident is worth creating a thread about it?

Luckily these errors never happen in other parts of the world, otherwise that would really be tragic.

It was her attitude in a real life event. Sorry it wasn't a car crash where it's always the falang's fault no matter the circumstances.

I think a lot of the blame can be put on the store/bar owners. If a waitress brings you an incorrect drink and the bar docks her for 'her' error then they are less likely to correct it without issues. I've had many an incorrect drink and just took some of them without a word but most were replaced without issue once it was pointed out. Occasionally it doesn't go so smoothly.

As silly as this thread is....it happened in thailand.

Should he have posted it on the Pakistan forum ?

Of course it's acceptable. Why should he pay for something he didn't order? If you just accept poor service and bad attitude nothing will ever improve.

A few farangs are not going to change Thai mentality like I said do it with your feet don't go back. Complaints can be made about the service so it does not affect others but all that has happened here is the worker will just say the farang no pay to her boss

That`s a great idea, why not expand a little? Then I can tell everyone the shocking trauma I suffered when a female staff member at a New York coffee shop gave me a cake with raisins in it when I explicitly asked for no raisins to be included.

I required 2 years of counselling to over come my fear of coffee shops that sell cakes with raisins in them, but still having the nightmares on occasions even today.

But what we all want to know is, did you complain, did you get the response you expected and did you pay? :P

I agree with you 100% on letting my feet do the talking it's just that my feet start talking the second the attitude comes out.

To be honest I don't think that staff in cafes and stuff actually learn when people walk out due to their bad attitude. In the case above the bird will likely have dropped the sambos in the bin and forgot about it. One of my pet hates is when staff are taking your order and some Thai <deleted> walks up and interrupts, and they completely forget what you have ordered and ask you again. I love these moments cos you can <deleted> the Thai <deleted> for interrupting, then refuse to repeat your order and make the staff think (for once) and remember your order. Petty yes. Funny, hell yes!

Don't know about Thai Subway's but when I was a kid we used to do a 'waste count' at McDonald's and counted all the stuff we threw away that shift. We could've dropped it or it could've expired. The bin was deffo examined for 'learning purposes'.

There is a hardness to a lot of Thais working in Pattaya. I dont like the place but have friends who like it so sometimes visit.

Its probably the amount of rude or pissed tourists the employee has to deal with daily has made her have the attitude problem.

And, of course the OP and his "mate" spoke in perfect English. Oops, I mean Thai.

'course you just point, nod and name at the correct condiments and they nod back in understanding yet shit happens.

What has any of this got to do with attitude?
