I'm sending a bunch of stuff back to the UK and am looking for the best way to ship it, mostly clothes and personal possessions.

I know that the likes of DHL and the Post Office (EMS) offer a service although DHL seems pricey, anyone with first hand experience of these things please? I would guess the volume is something like 3 cubic metres or perhaps 75 kilo's.

I'll also be keen to hear if there's anything special that needs to be done regarding UK Customs, I'll be shipping under the label of "personal possessions, returning expat" so I don't think this is an issue but just want to check.

Thanks

Yep, saw this. Problem is it's in Chiang Mai and the container is leaving on Thursday I believe. Time constraints and all that

Help! I'm getting desperate on this - surely somebody out there has first hand experience of shipping personal possessions back to the UK, anyone?

The post office has surface mail with insurance. so it will take 6 weeks. Airmail is frightfully expensive. I was quoted 1,800 B for about 2.1 kg airmail and ended up paying 1,090 for surface mail with insurance included.

Thanks for that, it's a step in the right direction.

Yup. I have first hand experience.

I used this company: www.agilitylogistics.com phone number is +66 2 3263456, speak to Rungthip.

You can get an entire container or a box, or even smaller. They'll give you a quote for your three cubic meters.

You have to fill in a customs declaration. I brought back more or less an entire family home and didn't have to pay anything (custom etc.). Delivered to my door. Worked like a charm. One of the best things with this was that they held on to my stuff until I knew where to ship it. It took me a couple of months to figure out where we would end up and another two months to find a new house.
