June 12-13 Holiday?

Featured Replies

I would like to ask if the Thai Consulate in Penang would be close from June 12-13? Correct me if I'm wrong. I just known lately that these days were declared as special holidays though these days were not marked red in the thai calendar.

Please advise.

I would say almost certainly yes, 99.9%. This coming Friday (9th) as well.

Friday 9th, Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th are all special Thai holidays to celebrate the King's 60th anniversary, plus I'm sure the weekend in between will be included although not "work days" as such.

The 14th is not going to be declared a special holiday aswel is it? I hope not!!! :o

Anyone know for sure?

So it means the Thai consulate in Penang would be closed from June 9-13?

Please clarify.

If that is the case, it would be better to go for the Thai Consulate by June 14.

You need to check with the Consulate directly. I am sure it will be closed on the 9th as that is a special holiday but the 12th and 13th are not holidays outside of the Bangkok area AFAIK. But government workers are not keen on missing holidays so it would be best to confirm with the Consulate itself.

Ok, i'll email those embassies and consulates tomorrow since that day is the last working day they got and I'll post here the reply as soon as possible.

I would not count on a 24 hour turnaround for email. If you need to know strongly advise a phone call as tomorrow is the only day open until the days you have questions about.

It just hit me last night that the Embassy being closed on the 12th & 13th is really going to scupper our wedding plans. I needed to go to the Embassy on the 12th to submit the FTM certificate and collect / translate it the following day at the MFA.

I can't believe they have just annouced it now! Why didn't they think of this at the start of the year!!! I've spent the last six months planning those 2 weeks in June and in particular those specific days.

It's pushed our wedding day back to the 16th now, which I tried to avoid because of the date 16.06.06, yes, 666!! I might try and plan for the 17th but that might leave us short on time. I have to wait and see what the Embassy say tomorrow.

Only in Thailand :o

Which embassy are you talking Rj81?

For additional info for everybody, June 9 is a nationwide holiday in Thailand while June 12-13 is a holiday applicable only to Bangkok.

Anyway, i'll post in this forum later this afternoon about what I got.

Any other inputs would be a great help for the guidance of everbody.

As off 8:30AM, Bangkok Time:

I called +6042269484 which is the contact # of the Thai Consulate in Penang. The one answered me said that they are open from June 12-13.

I'm not sure if this thing would be changed later this day, I hope they fix this schedule.

We are working on the 9th, just toooo short notice. Hopefully the building aircon will be on, otherwise it will be intolerable :o

Monday and Tuesday off though :D

Oops, error on my part, ended up posting in the wrong thread, too late to edit.

Sorry for any confusion.
