sirchai
I had unprotected sex the first time, when I was 16. But that was many moons ago. Would that have made me to a good father? Hell no. My motorcycle, friends, etc was more important to me. A 16 year old girl, who lived next to my wife's village got pregnant, didn't tell anybody about it and thought an abortion would be easy. She checked all types of medicine that hinder a pregnancy, took a lot of stuff and was found dead the next morning by her speechless parents. There was a pond of blood when they found here, the parents were so sad that their daughter didn't tell them anything, that they were ashamed. Avoiding pregnancy is a topic mothers just aren't capable of telling their daughters. Nor do any teachers. Lack of important education.. How many 15 year old girls all around the world "become" pregnant? Not just here in this country. Edited April 13, 2014 by sirchai

sirchai
I walked in on a couple of my students going for gold in the classroom one morning break she was only 13. I thought at the time I was going to find some students hiding up in the class eating. Got to admit they where very sorry and embarrassed, and I did not report it as they would have been sent out of school. Looks like we also need more sex education and training for teachers in Thailand. Depressing... No, that's obviously sick.

BillyBobThai
I have been at the Hang Dong hospital many times in the last few months with some health issues. Every time I am there is close to a dozen young girls with their babies for checkups. Some seem to think that this is normal for Thailand, and they are probably right, but that does not mean that it is the best course of action. Until Thai kids are educated about the biology of their bodies, this cycle will continue. Basic education is severly lacking here.
steven100
15 yrs old is way to young to have a baby. Wait until early twenties at least. Wait until you have a more stable situation. 1. Finish school , obtain a good education 2. Complete a good university degree if possible 3. Start your career path with a good paying job 4. Deposit on a home near mama's & papa's 5. Find a nice boy who's a couple of years older with a good job 6. Get married 7. Have a baby This is the chain of life that must be followed... remobb
Make sure you microchip the father so you can locate him in future.... The fact is that they get their heads filled with all this sugary sweet nonsense music and TV shows then become easy prey for any dead beat with a perk on, who'll be off like a shot when he gets the news.... Why just microchip the father?? I know a case where the mother just left the baby with the father and does not give any support. BITCH! She has shacked up with someone else. So now, the grandmother and great grandmother take care of the kid. As for the father, he is a good kid and takes responsibility where he can but has to work away from the family home. recycler
Thanks everyone for all your posts really appreciated Can I just point out in both cases they were both the same age and so called boyfriend and girlfriend Surely with the social media in 2014 the kids must know about condoms . Not only about pregnancy but about aids etcc etc etc. 1. Cabbages and Condoms. http://www.pda.or.th/restaurant/ 2. They need to start handing out condoms in school when puberty is reached. The kids are afraid to buy the condoms at a store or don't have the cash. As long as they take condom vending machines out of the school before valentines day on parents request, as it may remind kids about sex... we have a long way to go! mrowe1973
Having babies at this age is normal and natural. Only our twisted western society sees it as wrong Perhaps 200 years ago it was normal when the life exspectacy was 45 years old. No dout humans are able to sexually reproduce at this age, but it does not benifit society. In the West we have a social network in place that rewards people whom have children. In Thialand there is no system in place, so the burden on the faimly is great. Also in the West fathers have to support their children by child support. In Thialand the man runs off to impergnant another girl. Just go to any go go bar everyone working there has a bady or had a baby at a young age and the male is gone. samjaidee
Im not convinced this side of Thailand is wrong. I mean in many ways it make sense to have kids when very young. Then, here you have the bonus of still being able to go on and live a life, whilst your mum looks after your baby. Chances are, the mum did the same and it was her mum that looked after her baby. So..it passes that way down the line. Young girls are biological mums, but only become mothers in the sense of bringing up a child when their own daughters have babies. Young girls are happy as they can live their lives, grandmums are happy as they are more mature, settled and ready to look after a child. So....why not...? ummm... because it perpetuates a cycle of dirt poverty? Globeman, please explain your reasoning behind your comment.
sydneyjed
sex education at school? information, advice and support available for teenagers - especially those in rural areas? Support?...it was only just over a year or so back that thai education authorities ordered the removal of all condom vending machines from high schools! Understanding the reality that kids are going to practice sex regardless of what authorities think is the first step we need to educate as isn't the thai legal age of consent 14 years old anyway? That in itself tells you where to start the education process..but alas that is the minimum school leaving age also..so many of the local rural Issan girls are home helping in the rice fields by then...and pregnant!!
