Chiang Mai to install CCTV

CHIANG MAI: -- Chiang Mai is putting up surveillance cameras at 20 intersections in the city to keep an eye on traffic and crime.

The Bt60-million closed-circuit system will be able to keep records of road accidents and illegal activities for up to 14 days to assist in analysis and investigation.

The city is considering installing the technology at 10 more hot spots.

With 30 to 40 accidents occurring each day, officials hope the new system will not only aid traffic police but also reduce the frequency of crime and accidents on the city's streets.

From what I've seen of chalk marks on the roads, there are not too many at intersections! Another vote buying ploy perhaps? :o
