Most of us who live in Thailand might appreciate that during this time of year things get a little more crazier than usual. There is always a good mixture of great times and then the sad when having to witness incidents that could have been easily avoided.

I was sitting in my local the night before last and witness yet another ugly side of a drunken farang in Pattaya and the Thai's need to always keep face. Unfortunately all of it was fueled by both parties being drunk and the all too common lack of common sense.

Why do a lot of farang insist on getting drunk beyond comprehension and whilst being full of "Dutch Courage" decide to ignore a please leave request after 5 times? In your own country, bouncers and police would handle disputes, but Thai justice here on a farang seldom see's the police attend. Do people suddenly feel the need to show a superiority because of an increase in monetary exchange rates? I think this guy obviously did and he ended up paying the price with violent consequences. All he had to do was leave!

He sat too long which when a Thai is insisting on keeping face, was one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. Egging a Thai on and asking for trouble was his second. Sure enough, five heavy hits to the face and a blood gushing cut eyebrow soon put him in his place. The idiot didn't even shape up to defend himself. Did the police attend? Of course not!

The moral of the story. Be polite and respectful. So many times I witness farang being disrespectful to Thai's. Even the poor buggers who walk 20 plus miles a day trying to sell something whilst you enjoy your beer. There is no need to be an arse. You live or holiday in a country where millions of unskilled nationals reside. Your a guest and your visa proves it. "I have more money than you" doesn't allow a repetitive rudeness. If anything, you're just identifying yourself as an idiot amongst other expats, visitors and above all the Thai's.

May - Owh = No Thank you. Rudeness = <deleted> <deleted> in anyone's language.
