Heheee the last rally was supposed to be their beating of their war drums with 500,000 or more people but they couldnt get 100,000. If you all remember this rally was supposed to be a rally of numbers to see which party could show the most supporters. I guess to gracefully cancel in advance means they didnt have enough team players. My guess would be they couldnt even get the numbers they had at the last rally. Their support base is dwindling along with their leadership.

Personally I would call it sad - the absence of supporters just shows how many have been betrayed and damaged by PTP/ Yingluck government

It seems like a very sensible decision to me. At this stage this is no specific reason to hold a rally. That, of course, may very well change when the Constitution Court delivers its decision. If the consequence of that is the removal of the Caretaker PM, then we shall all be able to hazard a more informed opinion about the possibly dwindling support for the UDD.

Actually there were supposed to be two reasons, the first was to show the world they had more support than Suthep.

The second to support their brave leaders who have a court appearance tomorrow regarding breach of bail.

Now perhaps they will tone down their rhetoric regarding the judicial process. One can only hope.

sorry if I am wrong but I was under the impression that if Yingluck steps down or is thrown out on her ear the senate would pick the new interim PM..

Can't say as I recall Suthep saying he was going to run the show. If I remember right he was going to prepare a list of people he would like to see in the office and I am quite sure the PTP will do the same thing. Now I can not say who he was going to give his list to but I am sure it would be a person of high morals.

Just because you don't like the man don't go making false accusations. I don't care for Abhist but I will not make up false accusations against him. In my opinion he would be the perfect Prime Minister after the reforms. But then again I speak only out of care for Thailand. I stand nothing to gain from it. I am a self supporting retired person with guaranteed incomes and a good life. I personally gain nothing except an even happier wife if the Shinawatra's are thrown completely lock stock and barrel out of the Thai government.

Then who would you have faith in to plan and implement meaningful reforms ?

Perhaps you could elaborate on what you mean by 'same old',

I assume you are meaning the reforms not those who are proposing them,

Anyway surely it is the content of the reforms (which we have no details of yet) that are important and not who puts them together.

If the eventual reform package, using ideas from all groups is good and addresses the reforms needed in each area then what is the problem with who proposed them ?

At present there is one major player who has not addressed reforms rather insisting on an election first.

Do you trust any political party once in power to implement reforms that would curb their ability to engage in corrupt practice ?

One of 2 things is happening right now:

1. Those behind the scenes deal and accommodations are coming to fruition,

and/or

2. They've finally realized they don't have the popular support they thought they had.

Personally, I'm going with both 1 and 2.

Let me take a stab at this:

Right after Songkran, everyone is tired physically and also mentally on the current political stalemate. Can it be they cannot muster enough Reds. Instead of looking bad for a low turn out, they might as well call it off to regroup at another time?

Secondly, can it be possible, the fund is running low? No cash is coming in from Dubai. On top of it, the caretaker cabinet cannot make any fund appropriation to incur debt for the next administration, so there is really no trough for these pigs to put their snouts in, which means no corruption, no money!

"Tanavuth Vichaidith, spokesman of the Red Shirt’s United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said the group will re-assess the situation before deciding if a major rally will be held but the cancellation of tomorrow’s demonstration is not a retreat."

It is a rout.

"The UDD earlier rallied at Aksa Road in Buddhamonthon before Songkran, but cut short its activity after three days of gathering. It announced before dispersing that a major rally would be held after Songkran.

Mr Tanavuth said the UDD would fight without pulling back, for genuine democracy for Thailand."

What does a communist know about genuine democracy?

"Thida Thavornseth, UDD adviser, said a proposal by anti-government leader Suthep Thaugsuban to appoint a prime minister under imposition in Section 7 of the Constitution would be impossible."

I wonder what her reason for saying it was imposable under Section 7

“That’s why we (Red Shirt members) have to rally to emphasise our principles against ulterior power,” she said."

There would be no ulterior power if the red shirts pulled their support for the PTP out from under there feet.

"She said the UDD originally planned a rally after a the Constitutional Court’s ruling (on the fate of caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra) but “we may organise the activity earlier if necessary."

Necessary for what? They gain nothing. Other than their entertainment value.

"She called on Red Shirt supporters to be ready for the next rally which is planned for Aksa Road and urged the Election Commission and independent agencies to ensure a fair general election, otherwise Thai people will fight for justice. (MCOT online news)"

In other words she is telling the EC to clear the details of the election with her first. She wants to make sure they are held at the low moral standards of the red shirts.

From what I am seeing now and for the last 6 months the Thai people have been fighting for justice. They even have a leader Known to many as Suthep.
