What occurs to me is that many of the farang who seem to freeze at the sight of another (and I am talking of small towns not BKK or the resorts) are people you have never seen about before and never see again, also invariably they are "on the arm".

Not only on the arm but holding hands and generally looking besotted. This would indicate that the relationship is possibly fairly new and the farang is in a small Thai town for the first time. Everything is very new and seeing another Westerner is confusing and he just is not sure how to react.

Just a thought.

I maybe that miserable git but i dont live anywhere near you,i respond to those i am familiar with or know or am socialising with.

Other than that if someone requires my attention i am always polite and offer to help if it is possible.

Life is short as it is without stressing out over a passerby whose mind might be concentrating on the task ahead like shopping or how much will it cost me this time.wai2.gif

This is such a funny thread. All those country bumpkins who go: "Oh look, a fellow farang! Must say hello and bore him for a few minutes."

..... I'm glad this thread has been brought back from the dead.

One in tesco here tried to crack onto my missus.....

Two tried to crack onto her at the zoo the other day.....made her uncomfortable and she said hurry lets go.

Mind your own business you pervs.

Your misses is obviously a cracker then, let's all be the judge of that, mug shot please. Chill

ok....when she was 21 there was a thai super model getting around...i use the term super model loosely in thailand of course....any way, she was told she looked a lot like her.....just with a tan.....so google that, throw in some photoshop complexion changes and wallaa.....but shes nearly 40 now and has dimples on her ass.

I'm wondering why you say hello to complete strangers. How many other Tesco customers did you say hello to and what was their response?

Posted

I know what my response would be... a polite but distant hello while thinking what you want, what your angle is..... Are you going to ask me if I am English, then follow up with some sob story about how you lost your passport and money and need money to get a new passport.... Or are you going to pretend you're deaf and hand me a card asking for money.... So my conversation would be very guarded to say the least.

There is another thread about farangs snubbing other farangs.

I guess the threat of not being unique is just too much. Somebody said it right..it takes away from the "Thai Experience".

They would not smile back or nod at you in New York either...if that helps.

Not a good example.

In New York 80% are farangs and you don't go around saying Hello to everybody.

In Thailand, may be there is an 1% of farangs and it doesn't hurt to acknowledge a courtesy.

I was in Tesco in Bristol (UK) last month, there were also probably only 1% farangs in there, but I didn't feel the need to greet them.

Love it. 555.

I was in brick lane and couldn't find a local person :-)

Sent from my SM-N9005 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I also live in Brick lane and you are right, more farangs in ekamai soi 12 where I am for the winter months!

To this man in Tesco in khon Kaen please don't say hello to me.attachicon.gifimages.jpg

Where did you get that photo of Transam from?????????????

I don't think Transam would need to wear a bra.

Yes that is the problem starting a beer or bier club when most guys live in Thailand. We all know the selection is limited there which is a little sad.

Perhaps some bars stock some great drops?

Is there a bottle shop in Bkk with a wide range of imported beers? Well there should be.

Anyhow, I will start a club up in the pub section soon for anyone interested. A place to suggest and critique beers from around the world.

What about imported orange juice?
