INTERNAL SECURITY ACT
NSC ponders extending ISA

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- National Security Council is evaluating the situation before deciding whether to propose extending the Internal Security Act (ISA) until the Cabinet meeting next week.

The current ISA is due to expire on April 30.

National Security Council (NSC) secretary general Paradorn Pattanatabut said his agency will wait to hear the Constitutional Court's decision today on whether it will allow caretaker PM Yingluck Shinawatra to submit her defence after the deadline, which was last Friday.

There will also be discussion about the election and the anticipated reaction of anti- and pro-government groups.

The opposing groups have announced they would mobilise rallies depending on when the Constitutional Court rules on Yingluck's status related to the case of her transfer of NSC chief Thawil Pliensri.

The Supreme Administrative Court ruled the transfer was illegal.

He said the NSC would prepare measures to prevent confrontation between the groups.

The anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee had announced it would obstruct an election, Paradorn said. Meanwhile, this week's rally by the red-shirt Democracy Protection Volunteers was just in preparation for staff to keep order during the red-shirts' rally, Paradorn said.

Possibly they should take into consideration the results of the ISA and CAPO.

Mostly negative although they have redistributed about 4 billion which would be a positive for some.

Now there is a slip, so the red army are paid staff.

Just remains to be seen who is picking up the tab, the boss in Dubai or the tax payer.

I'm sure the Desert Rat will happily accept all ' contributions ' from the taxpayer to further his aims. Just a pity the taxpayer, and we all are one way or another, has no say in the matter.

Lest we forget that Chalerm actually asked for an additional 2.8 Bn baht, but could not justify what the purpose was, and was rejected by the EC. Yet 6 weeks have passed and they seem to still have plenty of funding left..... so why ask in the first place?

I have a sneaky feeling that the CAPO funding is serving to pick up the tab for all the red shirt and UDD expenses.

I am sure there will be a NACC probe into CAPO once the power shift is complete.

It should be noted that to have Thaksin's longtime associate and confidant, Paradorn - in control of " security " is something only George Orwell would dream up if he had a very pronounced sense of irony.
