PDRC leader Sakoltee arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport

BANGKOK: -- Immigration police have arrested Sakoltee Phattiyakul, a leader of the People's Democratic Reform Committee, at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport on charges of intrusions into government's offices.

He was arrested at 11 pm Friday when he returned from the United States.

Police arrested him under Pak Kret police station's warrant dated March 25 2014.

Police alerted the Department of Special Investigation to take over the case.

Sakoltee was taken to the Criminal Court to seek a court's approval for his detention pending investigation. Police will oppose his release on bail.

BANGKOK: -- A key member of the anti government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), Sakontee Pattiyakul was arrested late Friday night at Suvarnabhumi airport.

He was arrested shortly after he returned from a flight from Korea by immigration and Samurai Prakarn police in cooperation with officials from the Department of Special Investigation.

He was wanted by the DSI for illegal intrusion of government offices.

DSI director general Tarit Pengdit confirmed the arrest last night and said Sakontee returned from a flight originated in the United States.

He said DSI is to prosecute several charges on him which include insurrection, obstructing election, and intrusion of government offices.

Thailand makes rare arrest of protest leader

BANGKOK, April 26, 2014 (AFP) - Thai authorities have made a rare arrest of one of the leaders of the country's anti-government protest movement on charges including insurrection and inciting unrest, an official said Saturday.

Former opposition lawmaker Sakoltee Phattiyakul is one of only a handful of prominent protesters to have been detained despite dozens of arrest warrants.

He was arrested at around midnight at Bangkok's main airport while returning from a trip overseas.

"He faces five serious accusations including insurrection, trespassing, inciting unrest and obstruction of an election," said Tarit Pengdith, director-general of the Ministry of Justice's Department of Special Investigation (DSI).

Sakoltee, considered a "core protest leader", was undergoing interrogation and would be taken to the Criminal Court where the authorities would oppose his bail, Tarit said.

Leaders of the anti-government movement have flouted arrest warrants to deliver fiery speeches, lead marches, block roads and besiege government buildings in their bid to topple Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Sakoltee led protesters to storm the building of broadcaster Thai PBS late last year.

The movement wants to replace Yingluck's government with an unelected "people's council" that would oversee reforms to tackle alleged corruption and rein in the political dominance of her billionaire family.

Top protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban faces several arrest warrants linked to the rallies including for treason, as well as murder charges linked to a deadly crackdown on opposition demonstrations in 2010 when he was deputy prime minister.

Yingluck meanwhile is accused of dereliction of duty linked to a loss-making rice subsidy scheme and the improper transfer of a senior civil servant. Both cases could lead to her removal from office within weeks.

Erm, so he was arrested coming back into the country. However, he was able to leave without being stopped? Is there not an alert put out to airports about people wanted by the courts to prevent them leaving the country...........

He will be out on bail by Monday.... and they know it.

The lawyers will be there already and claiming double standards of that of the bail of Jatuporn and Nattawut who are actually in the process of being convicted on TERRORISM charges.... a shitload worse than silly rally speeches and intrusion into the PUBLIC areas of government offices.

SAMUT PRAKAN, April 26 -- Sakonthee Pattiyakul, a co-leader of the anti-government protest of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) was arrested on Friday night by Immigration at Suvarnabhumi Airport as he was returning form South Korea.

Mr Sakonthee was detained at 11pm and charged with leading protesters to intrude into government offices. Police would seek court permission to detain him at the Criminal Court and oppose any bail attempt.

He was under an arrest warrant from Nonthaburi's Pak Kred provincial police for intruding into government offices.

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) today led him to the Criminal Court to ask court permission to detain him.

DSI secretary general Tarit Pengdith said DSI would initially charge him for insurrection, intrusion into government offices, obstructing the general election and would consider additional charges against him.

The PDRC protest leader and PDRC secretary general Suthep Thaugsuban said he has been informed about the Sakonthee arrest and has assigned lawyers to seek bail for him.

Mr Suthep was leading the PDRC protesters to march on the Thonburi side of Bangkok at Arun Amarin Road, passing Siriraj Hospital, Pran Nok Road to Issaraphap Road to Wong Wian Yai roundabout for nine kilometres to invite public to join the final mass rally.

PDRC spokesman Akanat Phrompan said that Mr Suthep has talked on the telephone with Mr Sakonthee and told him that PDRC lawyers would help him with regards to the legal procedure.

Mr Akanat said the police has authority to detain him for two days and would seek the Court's permission to further detain him. The PDRC would seek Court permission to release on bail and affirmed that Sakonthee would not flee. It would depend on the Court's decision to grant bail or not, he said. (MCOT online news)

fighting for "real" democracy, yellow style? you mean boycotting elections, blocking elections booths and bashing and intimidating those with different political opinions ? because these are the defining characteristics of the movement he is helping to lead.

Sakoltee released on bail

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court on Saturday granted bail for PDRC leader Sakoltee Phattiyakul after he deposited assets worth Bt600,000 as a guarantee.

The court forbade him not to leave the country unless granted permission. The court also ordered him not to incite violence or lead protesters to close or besiege government offices again as key conditions for bail.

If this had been a PTP related arrest we would be given details as to;

- Class of service the accused was traveling in

- Baggage contents

- Names of traveling companions

- Outfit he was wearing

- Whether or not he protested his detention

Oh well. I bet he'll look snappy in his prison clothes and shackles.

Baggage content won't be xx bags full of cash in his case so it is less interesting.

If the prison is of mixed types then he and Yingluck could have fun exchanging views.

If he is guilty of these charges then the other millions over the last 5 months that took part should be arrested, along with the reds and their leaders.

You are so wrong. He already eposited in the banks in the US and in South Korea. He was on his way back to get some more. He finally got what was coming. And good ridance if he is in jail for life.
