is Cambodia danger place to live?I would like to go there for a trip to Angkor Wat...

Generally ok I hear, though I guess you haven't read the thread about the Canadian winding up murdered near one the gates there recently?

My mates went to Angkor Wat a few years ago by boat but I remained in the capital for two nights having heard about Pirates active in the river. See this article as well. They (my mates)got back safely.

A suspect arrested last week for the murder of Dutch national Daphna Beerdsen was charged on Saturday in Phnom Penh Municipal Court, a court official has said.

The suspect, 35-year-old Chea Pin, was charged with intentional murder with aggravating circumstances at the court of first instance, Heang Sopheak, the court’s vice prosecutor, said on Saturday.

Pin has since been remanded in custody and is awaiting trial at Prey Sar prison after the investigating judge issued a detention warrant for him.

“I have charged him with intentional murder with aggravated circumstances. He has now been sent to Prey Sar prison,” Sopheak said.

The suspect – a homeless man living in Wat Than pagoda near the house where Beerdsen, 31, was killed on April 28 – was arrested on Tuesday.

Unfortunately the Cambodian police are not well known for arresting people based on evidence of guilt.

They are, however, very well known for arresting innocent people - either so they can avoid the trouble of really investigating or because they cannot investigate (e.g. influential person is behind the crime).

It does sometimes occur that arrests follow an actual investigation and are based on evidence (though arguably the exception, not the rule). In this instance the short timeline between crime and arrest, the details of the crime and the supposed motive etc given by police do not inspire confidence.
