Pregnant, changing from a work visa to a dependent O visa

Featured Replies

I currently have a working visa. I am pregnant and will stop work for some time. So I will need to change to a dependent visa, my husband's work will sort that out. My visa expires around the time of my due date.

- Do I need to leave the country to complete this process?

- I'm not comfortable traveling while pregnant AND I work full time (thus getting time off to do an international trip is difficult)- can I get a medical extension?

- Is it possible (from a legal standpoint) for my place of work to extend my visa with a maternity leave, so that I can complete the process after the delivery of my child?

Thanks for your help with this. I really don't want to endure a plane ride or trip across borders at this stage.

Many thanks.

Visas cannot be changed.

You can change the reason for your extension from working to a dependent extension without going out for new visa. You will need a letter from your employer stating you are no longer working and it's effective date. You will then take the letter to immigration on or shortly before the date on the letter. Immigration will cancel your extension and then you will apply for a dependent extension.
