United Front for “Democracy against Dictatorship” –am I missing something here?

Can’t be long and the ThaiRouge start some serious book burnings to save the famous Thai culture from unhealthy influences. Suitable titles like “A definition of democracy” or “Free Speech for Dummies” come to mind.

for Democracy?

It is time to enforce writing "UDD" in quotes

name a devil a devil not an angel

If this is what happens when a supposed supporter of someone who opposes them goes there to help the needy children.

What will it be like when a candidate from an opposing party tries to campaign in the area.

Freedom of speech.

Freedom of assembly.

Free amd fair elections.

Yea for red democracy.

PDRC did exactly the same thing on Phuket because the singer was aligned to the reds. Tit for Tat.

So that makes it right does it ?

If you read the whole thread, Chooka made clear that both episodes and any other of the same kind are both wrong and despicable...

The concert organizers should have know what would happen if they had a proven anti government protestor on stage. Don't blame the Reds blame the organizer of the event.

It is just possible there weren't enough 'name' entertainers willing to volunteer their time and talent for these needy kids. Why didn't some Red entertainer step up to fill the void? That's right, no one with any self-respect would be openly Red.

Is this the way the Reds would govern? Discriminating against those that don't follow them. Awful people those 300 Red protesters; no heart (except for Thaksin).

Where's Rich Teacher? He should be on here supporting his red thugs.

It turned out he was just "Teacher", not "Rich", so had to return home.

Yes it is wrong to disrupt a charity event, but let's not forget that this is a total photocopy of what the PDRC/Yellows did at the Red Cross charity event on Phuket. I you are going to condemn and hang the reds then you need to equally condemn the yellows.

Beat me to it, those who go on a anti red rant don't seem to hold the same views when their beloved leader gets his yellow mob to do the same.

Both sides show their selfishness by blocking charity events

I actually thought everyone would be together on this and condemn the disruption of charity events by both sides and not condemn one and support the other for identical actions.

A False Analogy to beat up a Strawman. rolleyes.gif

You compare one instance that is not identical to the one in the OP and then imply that the "other" side did not condemn it; to begin with, from the thread on the Phuket incident the event was not cancelled, only Sek Lokso performance, so there goes your "identical actions", second, there are only two posters there that actuall support that action, no side-wide support as you imply.

"They are all the same" is nothing but a weak excuse to downplay the indefensible, specially when you can't even show the premise to be true.

I think chooka has (understandably) left the building biggrin.png

This charity disruption is not uncommon for red shirts as on the 30th March 2010 the red shirts attacked a charity headed by Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda with M69 grenades. Why? They were targeting Prem.

This is another example that the only principle of democracy they adhere to is elections. When it comes to freedom of expression and freedom of speech they stay silent or in fact start intimidating. Where were the police? One would have thought that a charity event for poor students would be within their democratic right and breaking up a charity event is not within the red shirts democratic right and in fact against the law. The red shirt street thuggery has become so common that no one even mentions the police actions or lack there of anymore. It is accepted that the police will do nothing. Principle of democracy - Equal protection under the law? Is that not a principle alongside elections?

When one starts to accuse organizers for this intimidation then one needs to really take a step back and realize they are becoming the very thing they purport to hate.

Street gangs in LA have there own "turf" and stepping onto the wrong turf has consequences. Maybe some want Thailand to mirror LA in this respect.

The red shirts are the largest street gang in history under the guise of democracy. Their latest victim being innocent children…….again.

A pretty large proportion on this forum are knee jerk Express/Mail/Telegraph/Fox/CNN fans, so don't expect any unbiased critical thought on this one. look how most of them simply ignored the fact that the PDRC did the same here on Phuket. As another poster pointed out on another thread 'A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest'.

Is the OP about PDRC and Phuket? Or do you just want to divert attention from the shameless behavior of 300 Red Shirt supporters? Anyone commenting on PDRC and Phuket on this thread would be OFF TOPIC. The entertainer did not volunteer to come to Sakhon Nakhon to give a political speech but to perform to raise money for needy students. Why don't you confine your comments to the behavior of the Red Shirt protesters who forced the cancellation of the charity event and didn't even offer to make up the loss to the students. If I were the charity organizer or a would-be student recipient, I would get a lawyer and sue for losses.

Well those poor students will just have to get money for their education elsewhere. Another victory for the reds!

What 'education'?huh.png

Exactly! One can't be a Red Shirt/ Thaksinite if one has an education.

Redshirts foil charity concert for children in Sakhon Nakhon

BANGKOK: -- A charity concert organised to raise funds to support education for disadvantaged children was foiled by some 300 angry redshirt supporters of the government just because they claimed the band played at the anti-government rally in Bangkok.

The redshirt protesters on loudspeaker trucks and pickup cars blocked the entrance to the lawn in front of the second bus terminal in Sakhon Nakhon municipal area on Nitayo Sakhon Nakhon-Udon road where the Pongsit Kampee band was scheduled to play at 6.00 p.m.

Their leaders ordered organiser of the concert how to call off the show with claim that the head singer of the band Pongsit Kampee and his band are strong supporters of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) and also held concert shows at rally sites.

About 100 police were moved in to keep peace and order while the redshirts led by Sayant Thanakiatpaisarl opened talk with the organiser with ultimatum that the concert must be cancelled because its singer supported PDRC leader Suthep Thugsuban.

But despite of desperate attempt to convince the redshirts that the concert was aimed at raising fund to help disadvantaged children in the areas to have more educational opportunities, they rejected with only an ultimatum to call it off.

The organiser later agreed and apologised to audience for safety reason and for sake of peace.

The redshirts kept watch until the organiser removed its stage, packed all equipment and moved out. They later dispersed at about 7.30 p.m.

^ Perhaps they shouldn't have, but it just goes to show how low these people are. I blame them 100%. Wherever they go and whatever they do causes people anguish and holds this country back!

A wise man (Chinese) told me when I first moved to Asia as a 19yo. 'Do not use logic in Asia as it will drive you mad'.

The problem is most Thai's or sadly a lot of expats on TV, can't look at the crap that their own side (red or yellow) does or says. If they could think what would be acceptable in a civilized country, then I am sure the comments would be very different

Well, the good news is that the next time the red shirts, or their supporters here on TV, complain that their schools are not as good or well funded as those in Bangkok, we can show them this article so they can see why biggrin.png

The only thing that matters is the evil of politics.

It's not politics that is to blame here. It's the cult of Thaksin and the evils of his personally funded brown red shirts - the 'UDD'.

Not the lowest thing the reds have ever done, doesn't compare to burning down buildings and killing children, however this is a pretty low move - AND THE REDS ARE COMPLETELY 100% TO BLAME AND AT FAULT for all you sheeple in denial mode. In a properly functioning democracy, you can openly support whoever you want and others, though they may not like it, MUST accept it and let daily life go on normally. If you don't like him because he doesn't support the idiot you support, just don't go to the concert, but don't try and ruin it for everyone else - that is low level terrorism....Further proof thaat democracy does not exist here - only skewed elections that will solve nothing till people have freedom to do what they want without the reds shooting them in the back and wreaking havoc like this.

A funny tale of Thai logic:

A few months back a Thai bank withdrew a relatively small amount of money from a company account. It was not found out until a few months later when the bank statement was checked.

Apparently the money was for an insurance policy issued by an affiliate of the bank.

The issue was discussed with the bank, who confirmed that the policy in question had never been requested, ordered or even discussed with anyone from the company, and that not a single piece of paperwork had ever been given to the company, nor signed by anyone at the company. No policy, invoice, receipt or similar had been sent to the company either. This is all confirmed by the bank.

Anyway, as it was a small amount, the bank was simply asked to return the money. The bank replied that they would happily return the money, but they could not return the full amount as the policy had already been active for a couple of months, so only an amount equal to the remaining period of the policy could be returned.

So your saying that red shirt democracy is ok?

It's better than what Suthep is offering.

How can anyone know if what he is offering is good or bad, it has never been tried or tested. Furthermore, anything has to be better than the country being run by a corrupt thieving mob of dictators.

In a way.... I get a good feeling each time things like this happen.

It shows the masses in those staunch red areas that the red shirt movement is nothing other than a new age Khmer Rouge who dictate what the public can see and do in their own communities.

The only real victims here are the beneficiaries of the charity and the fans who turned out to enjoy the concert and instead went home feeling pissed off and dejected at the hands of an internal terrorist organization.

All these little incidents stack up and actually breed resentment and contempt of the red shirt and UDD movement among the very people who they should be getting support from.... This will eventually be reflected at the ballot box... The red shirts are lucky that this is as far as it will normally go.... If the red shirts actually end up with the balls for a full scale uprising, the people themselves will likely rise up and crush them.

So carry on red idiots.

Probably the most nonsensical post this year - well done Bob!

So blame the victims. If the anti-Thaksin, anti-give Thaksin a whitewash, anti-Thaksin puppet protesters didn't protest about being governed by a fugitive crook hell bent on being their dictator, no one would have to shoot them or throw grenades at them. Blame to protesters not the reds.

Thailand is a free country although Thaksin and his red militia would love to change that it seems. Don't support us, you can't work . Hmmmm - heard that one before?
