Popular Post kuka
This a culture where the rich think they can do literally anything they want. The only thing they cannot do is win an election. That's why they use other means to force the elected party out of power. One of Yaopawas children are also on the MP list, so the clan can continue to rule.
webfact
Yingluck Removed, But Political Vacuum AvertedBy Khaosod EnglishEx-Prime Minister Yingluck giving testimony for a court case that ousted her today at the Constitutional Court in Bangkok, Thailand, 06 May 2014.BANGKOK — The Constitutional Court has removed Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra from her caretaker position but allowed her government to stay on until the next election—saving Thailand from the plunge into a political vacuum that many observers feared. After a nearly-two hour reading today, the court found Ms. Yingluck guilty of unlawfully removing the head of the National Security Council (NSC), Thawil Pliensri, and filling his post with one of her allies in 2011.The court declared such action a clear abuse of power and a violation of the 2007 Constitution. The judges also ordered nine Cabinet members who were involved in the transfer of Mr. Thawil to vacate their seats as well, including prominent figures such as Deputy PM and Foreign Affairs Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, Deputy PM and Financial Minister Kittirat na Ranong, and Labour Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung. The verdict takes effect immediately.Nevertheless, the rest of the Cabinet has been allowed to stay on as a caretaker government until the next election, which is scheduled to take place on 20 July.Deputy Prime Minister Pongthep Thepkanchana, one of the most senior of the surviving Cabinet ministers, is expected to take the helm of the government as new caretaker Prime Minister. The verdict came as no surprise to many pro-government supporters, who have long accused the Constitutional Court of collaborating with the royalist oppostion and harbouring hostility towards governments allied to former PM Thaksin Shinawatra.Over the past decade, the same Constitutional Court has ousted three Thaksin-backed PMs, invalidated two elections won by pro-Thaksin parties, and dissolved two parties that have pledged their allegiance to Mr. Thaksin.Mr. Thaksin, who was ousted by a military coup in 2006, is revered as a champion of the poor by his strong support base in Thailand's rural north and northeast, but is considered a corrupt, anti-monarchy tyrant by a coalition of the establishment and Thailand's mostly royalist, urban middle class. However, the outcome is far from the "worst case scenario" feared by many observers and pro-government activists, which would have involved the removal of Ms. Yingluck and her entire Cabinet, effectively stripping Thailand of a functioning government and creating an unprecedented state of "political vacuum."Anti-government protesters led by the People's Committee for Absolute Democracy With the King As Head of State (PCAD) have repeatedly said that creating such vacuum is a part of their plan to replace Ms. Yingluck's government with an unelected "People's Council."Pro-government Redshirts have warned that they will descend on Bangkok for a massive rally if the Constitutional Court ousts Ms. Yingluck and her entire Cabinet, though it is not immediately clear whether the Redshirts will accept today's verdict.Source: http://en.khaosod.co.th/detail.php?newsid=1399448687§ion=11&typecate=05 -- Khaosod English 2014-05-

The red shirts will not surrender this time. It's not like 2010. Now they know they will never have their political rights recognised unless they fight to the death. How is getting a corrupt bunch of politicians banned a "hijacking" of the democratic process? Save your "fight to the death" talk for your psychiatrist. Corruption pervades every area of Thai society. These are trumped up charges. Certain laws are strictly enforced when it suits the agenda of the Thai elite. It's nothing short of a judicial coup. I'm just stating what imo will result. The reds will fight to the death because if it wasn't clear in 2010, it's crystal clear now -- they will never play a role in Thai politics, their vote will never be recognised unless they vote for someone aligned purely with the interests of the Bangkok elite. The arrogant elite are so out of touch with reality if they think they can once again hijack the democratic process and not suffer any repercussions. The red shirts will not surrender this time. It's not like 2010. Now they know they will never have their political rights recognised unless they fight to the death. So, you're advocating a civil war . . . to the death? I'm not advocating anything. I'm saying the reds will now descend on Bangkok en masse. 2010 was just a prelude. The reds still had hope then. Now they have no hope and will fight accordingly. oldsailor35
Looks like the highest ranking cabinet member remaining would be Nattawut ...new Prime Minister? That would be hilarious. But I suspect this is just act 1 - they can't allow the elections to go ahead without rigging them properly first. You are confusing some things: The Shinawatras are these who always rig the elections. The courts and Suthep are these who want fair elections. WhizBang
At my house north of Bangkok (near a Red village no less), the Reds have lost a lot of influence. Best thing we can do at this point is to embrace them, and include them as part of the reform solution. Agreed, at least as far as the rank and file goes anyway. Popular Post HOAX
Hang on to your dollars the baht is going to drop like a rock. My Thai friends are out buying gold this afternoon. Look for a run on appliances and food. Gas and rent prices to rise. None of this is good for Thailand no matter what side you are on. Dream on. This was best that could happen to this country, getting rid of this thieving group will improve the Thai economy. That could be, but I highly doubt it. The fact is that both the reds and yellows are corrupted to the core and have plenty of litres of blood on their hands. Lets just say it like this, the yellows won't bring Thailand into any form for financial paradise, that's for sure. I'm for none of the sides. A complete change in every government institutions around the country is necessary, including police chiefs, military chiefs etc, but that's not going to happen. Thai people aren't interested in long term solutions.

BKKBrit
The lunatic SUTHEP failed to accomplish anything so the courts held a judicial coupe AGAIN. If u can't win an election let the courts give a guilty verdict on trumped up charges. Let's see what happens now. Ah, another Constitutional Law expert idiot rears his ugly head . . . are you denying their verdict? on what grounds? You might want to actually take a look at the Constitution one day so you can understand it a bit better . . . sorry though, no pretty pictures to color, only words: http://www.asianlii.org/th/legis/const/2007/1.html Soo.....as you appear to have read this thoroughly but appear to be short-sighted or typically one-sided in your debating prowess...here're a couple of crackers from said Constitution.... Section 72. Every person shall have a duty to exercise his right to vote at an election. The person who exercises his right to vote at an election or fails to attend an election for voting without notifying the reasonable cause of such failure shall be entitled to or lose the right as provided by law. The PDRC therefore also violated the Constitution by blocking candidate registrations in the south and preventing hundreds of thousands of people from voting. Rights and Liberties in Education Section 49. A person shall enjoy an equal right to receive education for the duration of not less than twelve years which shall be provided by State thoroughly, up to the quality, and without charge. So again, when the PDRC mobs thought it an idea to shut down 900+ schools and vocational colleges in January - that was in line with the Kingdom's Constitution? Anyway, now that Yingluck is out, let's see if your Dear Leader now turns himself in to hear the charges laid out before him on a variety of issues, including - no less - insurrection.
