Surapong still active as Deputy PM, eyes judicial reform after poll

BANGKOK, 9 May 2014 (NNT) – Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Surapong Tovichakchaikul has confirmed he will continue his duty as Deputy Prime Minister while disclosing plans to reform the Thai judicial system if the election is successfully held.

After Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was dismissed from office by the Constitutional Court, Mr Surapong remarked that Thailand was still obliged to send its leader to attend the ASEAN Summit in Myanmar this May 11 since the Cabinet had already issued a resolution on the matter. He said it would depend on the Cabinet’s discretion whether to designate him to join the meeting on the premier’s behalf.

Although his Foreign Minister post was brought to an end by the Court’s verdict due to his involvement in the unfair transfer of the National Security Council chief, Mr Surapong insisted that his role as Deputy Prime Minister was left untouched.

The ex-Foreign Minister pointed out that it would be a shame if no representatives from Thailand took part in the approaching ASEAN Summit, given the country would lose the opportunity to clarify the domestic situation to other members. It would also indicate the country’s lack of readiness to become part of the ASEAN Economic Community despite the fact that it had been one of those spearheading the initiative to make regional integration happen.

If the July 20 general election could be organized as planned, Mr Surapong said the first thing he would propose to his party was the reformation of the judicial system in parallel with the political system. He claimed the move would help eradicate corruption in the country.

Unbelievable!! It is time for the Army to arrest all the PTP for over throwing the Country. First it was Charlerm then the PTP telling the Court does not have authority and they are just going to ignore it, Then it is Surapong saying he is not going and even saying he is still representing Thailand at the Summit? Under what authority??

I think they may be using the authority gained by being the elected government, the same authority they will have after the next election. And the next. And th......

Astonishing. He's been thrown out - but like Chalerm, he's trying to cling on. Pheu Thai - the party that refuses to budge, even if the courts rule they should.

" The ex-Foreign Minister pointed out that it would be a shame if no representatives from Thailand took part in the approaching ASEAN Summit, given the country would lose the opportunity to clarify the domestic situation to other members. "

That's going to require some clarification.

Oh, goodie. We're back to square one and Thaksin's " reform " of the judicial system. And we know exactly what that entails. All we have to do is attend a UDD rally. The " reform " of the judicial system is one of their most unctuous battle cries. One wonders if the " eradication of corruption " was part of Pheu Thai's amnesty bill that pardoned Thaksin and over 25,000 other people convicted of corruption.

What we see is the UDDers casting their eyes towards Cambodia, as they long to implement a government modeled after the enlightened regime of Hun Sen.

Can just see his version of judicial reform.

All judges will now be paid for by Mr Big. He is doing the country a favour by taking away the fiscal burden of the judges salaries.

This guy couldn't beet a four year old at tik tak toe. :D

Sub-text

The courts on this occasion and previous occasions have stopped "big boss" from doing what he wanted, so if we get back in power we are going to change the judicial system to stop the pesky judges from kicking us out of power

The announcement is not nothing more than a threat to the judicial system in Thailand, these boys just don't lean

The courts on this occasion and previous occasions have stopped the elected government from being able to govern, that is why Thailand needs reform. The government should not lean, they should stand straight and go for yet another election.

Ah got it "govern" is a code word for looting Thailand's treasury, lying, cheating and nepotism by Thaksin of Dubai

Unless Thailand reforms the courts and has a fair constitution, you may be correct.

The only question is. How long will the people of Thailand put up with losing every elected government to the Bangkok bully boys.

It's so easy to operate under the law book of PTP and the reds as it's so small and thin.

You don't need many pages if you make law up as you go along and of course to suit.

They have stopped them from doing something, but it isn't govern.

As if they ever tried doing that for the benefit of the country over their self serving needs. (oh, and the boss)

Good to hear you're giving your support for mr abhisit's reform plans, maybe these reform plans will also give some clarification into the powers that the courts posses for those who aren't quite clear on their authority

The Army do not arrest anyone, Prayuth is on record as saying so.

But like most Thais he could always change his mind.

If he want to eradicate corruption in the country he should just fade away into obscurity (together with the rest of the Shin clan).

If you think corruption is only from the Shin clan in this country, then I really feel sorry for you. coffee1.gif

No, but they seems to have mastered it.

why are these goons still calling themselves DPM's when they were removed from office by the court on Wed

Not sure.

Why is Suthep claiming he represents "the great masses of the people" when all he has is a few paid thugs and a handful of old grannies behind him?
