Pictures appear to show RAF man posing with dead Taliban fighter

Photographs have emerged which appear to show at least one UK serviceman posing with a dead Taliban fighter.

The graphic pictures were taken in the aftermath of an attack by insurgents on Camp Bastion, the main British base in Afghanistan, in 2012.

The images first appeared on website Live Leak. The Ministry of Defence said they came to its attention last month and military police were investigating.

Two RAF Regiment members have already been withdrawn from frontline duties.

Two US marines were killed in the September 2012 attack on Camp Bastion, in Helmand province.

A number of British soldiers were injured and six US Harrier jets were destroyed.

The photographs show some of the damage caused, but two appear to show at least one member of the RAF Regiment giving a thumbs-up sign, kneeling next to the bloodied body of a dead insurgent.

To each his/her own opinion. Actually I rather enjoyed seeing the photo and would enjoy seeing more fo the same. I admit I am quite biased against the Taliban. When I was in Kabul I frequented a restaurant where a sixteen year old boy used to be a waiter. There was a photo of him on the wall. The owner said he was a clean cut, well mannered boy that liked to dress well and wanted to be a doctor to help the poor back in his remote village. One day the Taliban came in the restaurant, took him outside and hung him from a street lamp post. They reasoned that because he was well dressed he must be part of the Northern Alliance which was their enemy so they hung him.

Also the soldier may have been in a firefight with the guy and was relieved he took him out.

The Government should just say the soldiers concerned have been reminded of their responsibilities and that's the end of it.

I agree. While I'm not saying our troops should become barbarians (like our opponents certainly are), we (in the west) send our troops into harm's way and expect them to maintain Sunday school manners! Remember, we're fighting against predators who have a history of killing and maiming innocent, defenseless, unarmed civilians!

Most, if not all wars have had reporters filming stuff. Then we did not have smart phones or iPads. Stuff has changed in our day and age and for sure there are many pics of soldiers doing their job. For a soldier his job is killing folk he is told to kill, that is what soldiers do. A photo is just that, a photo of a soldier doing what he was trained and employed to do. Most of us are free men because of these guys and gals. The Taliban and the folk they dominate will NEVER be free, just brainwashed no brains.
