Pictures appear to show RAF man posing with dead Taliban fighter

Photographs have emerged which appear to show at least one UK serviceman posing with a dead Taliban fighter.

The graphic pictures were taken in the aftermath of an attack by insurgents on Camp Bastion, the main British base in Afghanistan, in 2012.

The images first appeared on website Live Leak. The Ministry of Defence said they came to its attention last month and military police were investigating.

Two RAF Regiment members have already been withdrawn from frontline duties.

Two US marines were killed in the September 2012 attack on Camp Bastion, in Helmand province.

A number of British soldiers were injured and six US Harrier jets were destroyed.

The photographs show some of the damage caused, but two appear to show at least one member of the RAF Regiment giving a thumbs-up sign, kneeling next to the bloodied body of a dead insurgent.

I would say well done to the troops for a job well done.

It's still in quite poor taste.

Well it's better than taking videos of chopping off someone's head and posting it on the Internet.

Exactly. I can't see what the fuss is about. The leftie libtards making a fuss over this in the West should consider that.

As long as the body of the insurgent was his kill and he was not trying to take credit from another soldier, what's the problem ?

Since when has it been a crime to kill the enemy?

Fighter pilots run a tally of kills on their cockpit.

Good shot I say.

RAF must live to a higher standard - he is not pissing on them like the Americans did.

To each his/her own opinion. Actually I rather enjoyed seeing the photo and would enjoy seeing more fo the same. I admit I am quite biased against the Taliban. When I was in Kabul I frequented a restaurant where a sixteen year old boy used to be a waiter. There was a photo of him on the wall. The owner said he was a clean cut, well mannered boy that liked to dress well and wanted to be a doctor to help the poor back in his remote village. One day the Taliban came in the restaurant, took him outside and hung him from a street lamp post. They reasoned that because he was well dressed he must be part of the Northern Alliance which was their enemy so they hung him.

What's the problem? Send a bunch of young guys into harms way and in battle the adrenaline will flow and they will be relieved to take out the enemy. If there is momentary celebration, who can blame them?

I say job well done.

Also the soldier may have been in a firefight with the guy and was relieved he took him out.

I could not agree more, It is also nothing compared to what the Taliban do for their propaganda machine.

What are they supposed to do, apologise to the nice people that tried to kill them, and pay compensation for killing the scum?

The Government should just say the soldiers concerned have been reminded of their responsibilities and that's the end of it.

Who cares if the Taliban are enraged? They're always bloody enraged about something.

Good. One less insurgent scum.

Just to understand a little bit better these type of wars : "Thumbs up also for Jessica Lynch..."

Haha, it worked, the pic pissed off the Taliban! Good job!

Hopefully it will enrage them enough to make them attack again, so they can top a few more of them.

No loss to mankind.

The century old intention of going to war is: you go out and kill all enemies, no matter how, how many, or how messy it gets!

.

The idea of a "clean war" suitable to be broadcast at dinner time to serve the Jonses and their kids is an invention of CNN & Co.

Hopefully it will enrage them enough to make them attack again, so they can top a few more of them.

First the big shot politicians cry WAR

then send their soldiers .

When the soldiers not behave like a priest, shame on them ?

This is war !Not a movie for the pope .

So the soldiers are sent there to take out ( kill ) the enemy, but if they do so it should be kept a secret ?

I agree. While I'm not saying our troops should become barbarians (like our opponents certainly are), we (in the west) send our troops into harm's way and expect them to maintain Sunday school manners! Remember, we're fighting against predators who have a history of killing and maiming innocent, defenseless, unarmed civilians!

Most, if not all wars have had reporters filming stuff. Then we did not have smart phones or iPads. Stuff has changed in our day and age and for sure there are many pics of soldiers doing their job. For a soldier his job is killing folk he is told to kill, that is what soldiers do. A photo is just that, a photo of a soldier doing what he was trained and employed to do. Most of us are free men because of these guys and gals. The Taliban and the folk they dominate will NEVER be free, just brainwashed no brains.

If the Taliban take over Afghanistan, and I think they will, nuke 'em. One week later nobody would have the feeling there is something positive missing from the area. Perhaps, maybe except some coffee shops in Amsterdam.

I believe, sir, the politically correct term is now "glass it" as opposed to nuke. wouldn't want to offend anyone would we!!whistling.gif

p.s. Fully agree with your sentiment!
