Ten countries interested in buying Thai rice

BANGKOK, 12 April 2014 (NNT) – The Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) says ten foreign countries have shown great interest in Thai rice, expecting to sell up to 4-5 million tons of rice in stock.

Surasak Riangkrul, the Director General of the Foreign Trade Department, revealed that the government had been contacted by ten foreign nations which wanted to import Thai rice under government-to-government agreements.

If the deals went through, Thailand would be able to sell up to 4-5 million tons of rice stored in its warehouses.

According to him, rice prices are gradually increasing due to the declining rice production caused by widespread drought in many areas.

He asserted that the ongoing political unrest would not affect the department’s monthly plan to sell between 800,000 to 1,000,000 tons of rice, adding that more rice auctions would soon be held in Chiang Mai and Nakhon Sawan.

If and if and if..........

Sell first and then give us useless statements, that we heard a million times before.

I am sure many countries are interested in buying Thai rice. They know that Thailand has more rice than it can expect to sell at market price and see a bargain coming their way.

If these countries are interested it is because the prices Thailand is willing to sell at are below world prices and this is not rice season

If—

BY RUDYARD KIPLING

(‘Brother Square-Toes’—Rewards and Fairies)

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Will you look at that ? As soon as the corrupt Chinawatra family member gets booted from office, the world feels that it is now appropriate to buy Thai rice again. Thailand is already reaping the benefits of her banishment. clap2.gif

and for what price?

rotten rice can't get a good price, but is still useable...to add when brewing beer. producing starch, producing bio-fuel (alcohol). Cheap spirits. But it must be cheap.

Or maybe wait a while maybe it can be sold in 1 yearcrazy.gif.pagespeed.ce.dzDUUqYcHZ.gif

Do you think there is someone in the government who can name 10 countries. Any 10 countries. (As someone pointed out already to our former beautiful premier: Sidney isn't a own country....And that capitol of Italy "Vatican" is also something complicated).

Fire those bureaucrats and posers and hire a small team of rice traders. Let them earn a 0.1% commission. Challenge them to sell >15 million tons in a month for just a little bit below FMV. That would be a win-win, wouldn't it?

The Commerce minister is not getting it, is he? Perishable goods means it's a declining asset best disposed of asap.

I want to hear of actual sales as opposed to some "memorandum of intent" or whatever nonsense they engage in. Just like when it comes to buying tablets, huh?

A pro would convert the budget of billions of Baht and go buy tablets from established quality manufacturers, not some company o one ever heard of.

How can the taxpayers tolerate more of this utter failure?!?

Is that the 4-5 million tons that they pretended to export to China but re-pledged to the govt instead? They have effectively tied the nooses around the necks of farmers themselves, after taking the food from their mouths.

Sure they will be able to pay the 20 billion back.

They still have it they never gave it to the farmers.

As confirmation on 24th April almost a month after the 20 billion was borrowed we have a statement from the minister

But Mr. Niwatthamrong said the government will pay the farmers "soon" with the emergency loan of 20 billion baht it has recently acquired from the central budget.

Twenty billion for two months on deposit at 2% gives a nice little earner plus of course commissions for all those involved in the deal.

Then now that they have established a record of paying back on time they are asking for another 40 billion.

Or aren't they asking ? One report said they were the next said the ask was of, than another said it was on again.
