Baby traveling

Featured Replies

Evening, just I quick question.

We would like to take our newborn son over to Thailand, we have an appointment at the Thai embassy in London in 3 weeks time( first available appointment) for register and passport application, this will apparently take 6 weeks ish to be processed, so was thinking if we apply for his UK passport(around 3 weeks wait) he could travel on that; only thing is we want to stay for 6 weeks, so would he need a visa like an adult would?

Kind regards

I can answer from an Irish point of view if that's any good?

We traveled to Thai last month on his Irish passport and my newborn didn't need anything but his passport. We got multiple entry visa for my Thai wife and step daughter to come back to Ireland but visa wasn't needed for son. Now we only went for a month but as we are Irish we can stay for 60 days anyway.

Hope that helps

As this thread refers to a visit to Thailand, I will moved it to the Thai Visa forum.

You son could enter on a UK passport and would get a 30 day visa exempt entry. He would be on an overstay when leaving but there would be no fine for it.

Children under 15 are not charged for overstays.

Thanks for that Joe. Do you think this would work OK? I'm not an overstay fan but is it more accepted for infants. kind regards

It is accepted for children. Immigration has even suggested they overstay instead of getting extensions.

Ubonjoe,

I plan to take my son to the uk for a holiday leaving on his Thai passport and entering the uk on his Uk passport

It will be myself and my son only who will be going and My Thai wife will not.

My question to Ubonjoe or anyone else who can help answer it is

Do i need a letter or proof to show Thai immigration that my wife is ok that her son is leaving the country with her consent?

Has anyone recently left with their child and can share their experiences taking their child out of Thailand without mum accompying them.

thanks in advance

JJP

You should have a letter from your wife stating you have permission to take your child out of the country.

Thanks for your swift reply as always Ubon, your a gent

One more thing,

Does the letter have to be stamped by a lawyer or MOF Thai? or will just a letter written and signed by the wife suffice?

My wife will be seeing us off anyhow so if the Thai Immigration ask questions she will be on hand ao answer any questions.

Cheers,JJP

It would be best to have it in Thai and English.

To be safe it would be a good idea to have it notarized. A lawyer can do it.

No, does not need to be notarized, but do bring a copy of her passport/ID card (speaking from experience).
