June 14, 200619 yr Chiang Mai will open a model bio-diesel plant on June 17 Thailand’s first model bio-diesel plant at tambon Nong Kaew (ตำบลหนองแก๋ว) in Chiang Mai’s Hang Dong (หางดง) district will be opened on June 17. Chaicharn Ritkirkkrai (ชัยชาญ ฤทธิ์เกริกไกร), a Chiang Mai University engineer, said tambon Nong Kaew has succeeded in producing bio-diesel from used cooking oil, lard and animal fat as part of its community’s energy saving campaign. The bio-diesel is sold to villagers and the general public at low prices, Mr. Chaicharn said. He said the villagers also helped build a model bio-diesel plant which will be officially opened this week-end. Mr. Charnchai said tambon Nong Kaew is a big producer of fried pork skin and so has a lot of oil left from the frying which is good for bio-diesel production.
