I enter Thailand on my 1 year multiple entry O visa.

I travel for work usually before my reporting period.

My question is I cross the boarder many times by land with my family usually for day trips or a few days

Like in Mai soi in Tak or Mai sot in Chiang rai or Chiang Khong laos to Laos.

Now for me to come back in to Thailand will I have to fly back ?

Or because I have a multiple O am I ok to return as before

It does serve 2 purposes vacation and to get my O visa stamp

I not even sure I am asking the correct question but hope you get my idea thanks

Based on the interviews with the Immigration Commissioner published in the Phuket Gazette, holders of multiple-entry non-immigrant visas are not affected by the current crackdown. Nevertheless, a problem could arise if the immigration officer at your entry point was not instructed correctly or did not correctly understand the instructions and mistakenly believes that all day trips across a land border, including those made with a visa, fall into the category of "visa run type O-I" mentioned in the information posted in Thai on the website of the Immigration Bureau for the benefit of immigration officers.

Post 60 in this tread is an example of what could happen.

It is about a traveller with a double tourist visa, when coming back from his visa run after the first entry.

Situation similar to 90 day visa run with "multiple entry non immigration o".

Surely a mistake by the immigration officer, and we can only hope that the same mistake does not get repeated too often.

Any suggestions what to do, what to bring for "just - in - case?"

I can't see that the post you mentioned has anything to with this discussion. But there have been several posts removed.

It should be very simple for immigration to handle in and outs if you have a valid visa or re-entry permit. It is as simple as visa/re-entry permit or no visa or re-entry permit. If you don't have a visa or re-entry permit you can have a problem.

It is my understanding the people affected are holders of multiple and successive Visitor Visa on arrival stamps in their passport.

It is not a visa of any kind. It is visa exempt entries.

Now what do you think happened??? They refused to let me back in.

I was dressed well, clean shaven , very presentable and polite. My papers were in order . But regardless ,the interrogation began. And it was'nt pleasant .They accused me of working illegally and/or attempting to seek employment. They wanted to see my itinerary. Why I was in thailand to begin with, where I was staying, who did i know there, how much money I had.(I had about 6000 bht with me). ,etc.etc., This #$^% went on for an hour. They ultimately said ...no.Partly because I opted to rent a studio apartment rather than stay at a hotel ! Renting a studio apt. evidently removes one from''tourist'' status!!

Oh they wanted to see money, alot of money! And I got the feeling that a bribe was being suggested, more than once.

Where and when did this happen?

The rule only affects people who do not have a Visa.

You have one so are not affected.

It appears tourist visas are also going to be scrutinized..

The mantra this is only for visa exempt stamps, is now in question..

Reading the most recent set of information printed by the phuket gazette he has clearly stated tourist visas are also to be scrutinized, not only visa exempt stamps.

I dont think thats a slip of the tongue.

Perhaps the underlying idea of the general is:

I do not care what visa you have. If I "feel" that you are suspicious, i will not let you in. I am above the rule of law.

This topic is about a non-o visa not a tourist visa.;

They may ask some proof for tourist visas to see what you are up to but the major concern is visa exempt entries. To get a tourist visa you have already gone through one check when you got the visa..

I have removed two off topic posts. If you want to discuss the "crackdown" you can do it in the ongoing topic about it.

I usually get a Non-O Visa with Single entry. After three months (90 days) I go and re-apply for another.

The last time I went I received a multiple entry Non-O (first time).

One of my friends says that anytime before the 90 days is up, let’s say 80 days, I can go across the border, spend the night and upon returning to Thailand,

the 90 days start over again, so I have another 90 days. Another friend says that that when I return, I will only get the other 10 days that remain on the original 90 days.

I have tried searching for the answer to this question and I have found lots about the Enter Before date but I have not found anything on the above question.

I think that I would be able to return and get another 90 days, but I want to be sure before I do it.

Any helpful answers would be appreciated.

I am a contractor working all over the world and sometimes I am here for a short time period and sometimes over 90 days.

(For anyone wondering why this is the first time I asked for a multiple entry)

For one year every entry you do it will give you a 90 day entry. It does not matter when you do them and you do not have to stay out of the country overnight.

You can leave the country at a border crossing and turn around and come back within minutes if you want to..

If you do an entry just before the visa expires you can get another 90 day entry that can give you a total stay of almost 15 months.

Thank you very much ubonjoe.

I appreciate the quick response.

From long experience and evident research Ubonjoe is correct. To reinforce that information - as a Multi-Entry 'O' Visa holder I recently did a 45 minute turn around border run 7 days early - just got another 90 days in Thailand starting the day I did it. However doing border runs in Laos cost 1500 THB for the Lao Visa upon arrival good for 30 days. One can theoretically throw away some money by doing unnecessary border runs in the one year.

One possible downside of all this tightening of the visa-runs for the non-visa holders, is that there'll be less mini-vans doing the runs for the genuine visa holders.

To be safe, be able to show 20,000 baht when entering, no matter what visa you have/don't have.

PS: Forget about bribes, try it at the border and you may land up in a world of trouble, even though inside the country might be a little different (in certain offices)... whistling.gif
