I looked at the website for the Thai embassy in London yesterday because a friend wants to get a triple entry tourist visa to Thailand.

It seemed extremely easy and straightforward (pay £25 pounds per visa, hand in one form and two passport size photos, get the visas the following day).

It says that they reserve the right to ask for additional documents but I somehow doubt that will happen. If it does you can handle it at that time.

I will go out on a limb and assume that if you do not have previous tourist visas to Thailand in your passport that your application will be accepted, especially since you are applying in the country where you are a resident, and your country is a so called low risk country.

If you are a Irish resident then applying for the visa in Ireland is the most correct way to do it yes.

You can normally download the form from the website yes. I know for a fact that it is on the London embassy website because I printed out some copies of it yesterday so I will assume you can find it on the Dublin Consulate one also.

The thing is that it's not at all considered strange for a person from a European Union country, or any other low risk country, to apply for a tourist visa to Thailand.

You shouldn't worry too much and in the unlikely event that push comes to shove I'm sure you can figure something out. Just have your parents put a little bit of money in your bank account and show a bank statement for example.

They don't expect you to be rich just because you want a couple of tourist visas to Thailand.

Do. Not. Worry. smile.png

Hi again

another question if I'm going for the triple entry visa, that would mean a 9 month stay, from what I know you need a outbound ticket when you arrive in Thailand right ? so when I book my return ticket can I book it for 9 months later

or can it not be anymore than 3 months later cause i'll have to do get out of the country after 90 day to start the second entry ?

sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but I've never done this before

If you have a visa of any kind you do not need a return or onward ticket to enter the country.

Showing a ticket out is only needed for a visa exempt entry.

This is some what true and has been discussed in great length in other posts But I think in all fairness it must be mentioned at least for the USA ,that when applying for a tourist visa the requirements ask for a itinerary and or round trip ticket also some uninformed airline employees aren't exactly up to date on the International Air Transport Association regulations.

Posted

It is true not somewhat true. The requirements to get a tourist visa has nothing to do with it.

The IATA has no regulations all they have is a database of the entry requirements for all countries that are supplied by those countries.

This is an easy webpage to check the requirement for entry to any country. http://www.staralliance.com/en/services/visa-and-health/

The IATA website asks for more info.

I am sure you are aware but remember to make a triple entry last 9 months after the first 60 days you need to go to a local immigration office in Thailand to get a 30 day extension of stay which costs 1900 baht a time.

OP, on the consulates website there should be a phone number to make appointments and discuss things. Jot down your questions call them, you will most likely speak to a native Irish/UK person. Consuls in the UK seem to be very helpful, the consulatee I used (Liverpool) have been great issuing me 2 triples and answering all my questions.

And..... Then do a border run (about 2000 baht with a border run company) within the 30 days, getting a new 60 day entry.... do the above twice and you have used your 3 entries.

Remember the Use by date, on the actual visa, you must exit and re-enter before this date to trigger the last or final entry.

It can be difficult to get the full 270 days as the Use by date is exactly 180 days from the date of issue. So if you fly one week after you get the visa... in effect you have lost that time off the visa. Its counting down, the day you walk out of the consul.

Plan your trip carefully using date calculatiors on the internet to help.

Remember they use the day you enter Thailand as the first full day of stay, even if you land at 10 minutes to midnight.

Double check your admitted to stay stamps when you get them to ensure its all how it should be, etc

With multiple extentions, re-enties, etc, planning and keeping a close eye on everything is advised. I'm on my 1st entry of my second triple now, just extented last week, maybe I'm paranoid but I double check everything to ensure my stay runs smoothly.

Enjoy your stay!

This thread has prompted a query from myself.

I currently have a double entry from Vientiane, the date of issue is 26th February, the 'enter before' date is 25th May. Is the enter before date the date that is the latest that I can make my first entry into Thailand or the date where I need to be making my second entry?

24th May is the last day you can enter Thailand using that visa.

Maks sure you do your border run before that date on the visa. A couple of years ago I filed for a extension after the first part of my double entry trying ot get the most days out of the visa. When the extension ran out I did a crossing at Mukdahan and upon re-entry was told I could only get 15 days not 2 months. The immigration officer told me that the visa was expired by a few days and no longer valid. Save yourself a lot of trouble and make sure you do a border run BEFORE the expiration date on the visa.

Well there you are. My extension of 30 days expires on 28th May BUT my visa enter before date is 25th May. I would imagine many have had the same problem that you had.

As it so happens I am already booked on a visa run on the 24th May, so if I had not noticed this today I would have just been ok anyway.

Yes, I'm sure many people have been caught about by that, to get the full 270 days you would need to leave on the day the visa was issued, pass through immigration on that same day and ensure all extentions, re- entries were done and all the dates were maxed out.

In reality the Use by date, (last date u can use the visa), and the "admitted until" dates easily get out of sync.

So check and double check all dates, visa expiry, 60 days, 30 days, admitted until, etc, just to be safe and avoid any surprises, as with immigration the responsibility falls on you.

call the consulate yourself and ask the question OP.

If they dont issue triple entry visas then go to Bali. Its really easy there as long as you pay with usd cash. Or brisbane oz is also easy

According to the OP, he is resident and going to apply for a triple TR in Ireland (which im sure won't be a problem), so I'm not sure he'll need to travel all the way to Oz or bali for a visa.

Op It's also important to watch and take note of the Thai holidays .Most immigration offices are closed . http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/thailand/ . Boarders are open 7 days I believe.

Yes that is a good idea.

BTW OP, even if your Permitted to stay stamp falls on a Thai holiday or indeed a Sunday (like my just extended one did, so I went to immigration on the Thursday before), the officer should still extend you from your Permitted to stay stamp, so you should not lose any days. Note the words "should", as per my previous post double check the stamp before leaving immigration or any borders just to be safe. ;-)
