Visa Help Required

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have managed inadvertently to get myself in a difficult situation and any advice would be hugely appreciated.

I came to Thailand around 18 months ago. I first entered from the UK on a double entry tourist visa. I then got myself a job and moved onto a work permit for around 8 months. After this finished, I got another double entry tourist visa which I have just found out expired 7 days ago. Last time I stamped in instead of giving me another 2 months they gave me 30 days which is why i am now on overstay. I want to stay in Thailand, would you be able to advise my best move now? Could I get another double entry visa? Do I have any other options.

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

If it was an error you can go to immigration to have it corrected without paying for an overstay.

I assume you are writing about your permit to stay date not your visa expiring.

What is the enter before date on your visa sticker?

Looking into it, I didn't enter again before the visa expired. The visa has expired now.

As long as you entered on or before the enter before date you should of gotten a 60 day entry not 30 days. You should go to an immigration office and have the error corrected. Then you can get a 30 day extension.

The you can go out for another 2 entry visa in Laos.

But if the visa had expired as stated, the officer correctly gave him the 30 day visa exempt stamp.

Its time for him to go and get another visa and pay for overstay.

Yes, he said the error was inadvertent, but if he was making a second entry into the country on a tourist visa that had already expired that seems to be more careless than accidental since he apparently paid no attention to the visa's expiration date or to the permission to enter date stamp he received.

Given the current situation with some of the borders, I would assume he'd be better off flying out, paying the overstay fine at the airport and then trying for another visa ... although if he's been staying here for any length of time and working and getting back to back tourist visas etc., these days he could have a hard time claiming he's a legitimate tourist.
