I don't think you'll find one here. You can however get laser hair removal done comparatively cheap.

Meanwhile tell me more about the one you have (brand name etc & how it works, does it hurt) - I'm going to the States soon & might want to pick one up.

I used to stock up on lady razors from boots or watsons in Bangkok. They are so cheap that i used to buy 6 months worth in one go. I used to have an epilady but found it WAY too painful so all power to you for being able to hack the pain

i bought an emjoy gently gold caress at Boots. nothing gentle, and nothing caressing about it in my opinion.

but they can be bought here. i would suggest that if you have one to bring it with you cathyy. if you need waxing, you can get full leg and bikini for about 500b in bangkok. depends on where you will be. if you are in the boonies, you will probably want to look at BYO.

you can buy it in Thailand .. ( found it in Boots /Watson and other Department store as Central Plaza and etc)

Thanks, ladies! I have a Braun Silk Epil. It comes with a vibrator thing that eases the pain for beginners. It really only hurts a lot the first time or two! After that the hairs are finer and shorter. I first had an Epilady years ago, and that WAS a horror. It just never did do a good enough job. The Braun and Philips epilators of today work differently than that monstrosity did, and do a fine job.

Yeah, I'll not be in BKK, so I'll both bring mine and look for a replacement while I spend a couple days in Bangkok on arrival. The list of things to pick up there grows every day!

funny story about a friend of mine who bought one of the old epilady things years ago when they were the big spring thing.

she was epiladying her nether region (well, just the bikini line really) and the thing got stuck! jammed! completely stuck in there among her pubes!

she had to use a razor to get the thing out! took her ages! poor thing.

another story about a modern day epilator - a true story relayed to me by a friend.... a woman called an ambulance to her home because she had an accident. the ambos rocked up and found this poor woman with an epilator jammed onto her face. it had grabbed on to her skin and got stuck. poor thing. she was black and blue. it took the boys a long time to get it off.

its a good lesson i think. delicate areas need specialist attention, girls! go to the waxer for the tender bits like face and nethers.

I find very few places in Thailand have them and when you're an old crock like me the stairs are a killer.

They are quite powerful as they have fine grippers which work like a motorsied tweezer so any hair, even fine hairs like on the face, can be gripped. I wouldn't use one of these if you paid me, first time round in my teens was painful enough.

I have never come across these things before but have become somewhat intrigued. My poor wife spends hours using tweezers to remove underarm hair every few days. If I bought her an epilator, would it a.) be as easy to use as tweezers? b.) have the same result? c.) would it save her the time she takes at present.

it is the same design as an electric razor so in terms of ease of use it's very easy to use & will probably save your wife a lot of time.

Well, prior to Donna's post I was going to say live & learn and go look for the Braun epilator. But Donna, your story does give one pause, especially as a few face hairs were what I had in mind. Can you tell us what the brand was and also indicate exactly how the thing got stuck to her face????

Taxelie, take note of prior posrts re the epilady brand (painful), according to Cathyy Braun brand not so bad. Also, for underarm hair she might want to consider laser removal, it's permanent.

Now a new but related question: does anyone know of a place that still does electrolysis? I know it has been largely replaced by laser, and I've had laser heair removal with good results except for a few rogue face hairs which are completely white in color so doubt that any more laser will help (laser works best when hair is darker than the surrounding skin). ??? I'm tired of tweezing...

a) easier, and way less painful

b.) yes, and last for longer (up to 10 days for me)

c) yes, as the hairs are ripped out in one go, only a couple of minutes for both armpits

p.s. I'm not an epilator saleswoman but I couldn't live without mine. Strictly legs and underarms only, though, wouldn't go near anything more sensitive!

So I'm here, and I got the more expensive Emjoi, not the gently gold. The blue one. All I have to say is...WOW! This is so much better than my Braun. It has twice as many sets of tweezers, so misses fewer hairs. It has enough oomph to do bikini line. I am very pleased and impressed. If only I could get rid of the tendency to get ingrown hairs, now. I loofah twice a day to prevent them, but it doesn't work. Soft skin + tough hairs = ingrown hairs.
