NCPO calls economic meeting

BANGKOK: -- The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) this morning summoned a meeting of members of the private and government sectors for discussion on economic matters and to set the economic guidelines.

The meeting was chaired by Air Chief Marshal Prajin Jantong, deputy chief of NCPO and air force commander-in-chief. Participants at the meeting represented the Thai Bankers Association, the Board of Trade, Thai Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Thai Industries, Stock Exchange of Thailand, the National Economic and Social Development Board, the Bank of Thailand, Budget Bureau, Commerce and Finance ministries.

Meanwhile Colonel Winthai Suvaree, deputy spokesman of the Army, disclosed today that the United States has downgraded the relations with the Thai military in protest against the coup in Thailand on May 23 by cancelling the joint military exercise and freezing the exchange of visits of senior military officers of the two countries.

The colonel said that the military had clarified to foreign military attaches based in Thailand about the need to stage the coup and was confident that the explanation would make them understand Thailand’s necessity.

Colonel Winthai said that democratic process in Thailand was different from that in the other countries because the process led to loss of lives, chaos and violence.

However, once the country has been running peacefully and smoothly for an extended period, once truly positive reforms are in place, and last but not least - a national election that is free and peaceful - then the West will likely grudgingly take notice at that. And perhaps realize that that would not have been possible otherwise.

Agreed, and he also left out the small matter the military did not protect the then elected government, if they had there would have been no loss of lives, violence or chaos. I am sure that the rest of western countries no exactly whats happening here, and because of the coup the likely hood of it recovering is rare as long as they are in power.

Whats important is that every day that passes Prayuth is moving forward to fix the problems the last admin created. Not just the protesters but everything. I hope they dont slack off and hit every aspect of running this country. Including the moral and ethical standards for people who want to run the country.
