Good Cycling tours in Bangkok....

Featured Replies

Dear All,

I've searched through 6 pages of searches on ThaiVisa and haven't come across a thread yet recommended tours for cyclists....

(And I'm sure anti-cyclists are gonna post cos there ain't any ....)

But there are a couple of parks I've come across that are OK/good for it like Queens Park and the Park between Victory Monument and the River....
So anyone got any nice routes they can recommend...
I did Sukhumvit Soi 11 to Siam Square to Victory Monument passed MOD HQ to the River and back yesterday and it was a tad busy in places !!!
I wondering if I should go on a couple of the Touristy tours to see the routes they take...
Cheers
SB

I think this post should be moved to the cycling section. Regarding tours in Bangkok, there aren't any really. You can try the new cycling track around the airport or go to Phra Pradaeng but that's about it. There are, however, quite a few cycling clubs and they often organize trips outside the capital. Mostly Thai's use them but if you go into a bikeshop, probably they could point you in the right direction to one, and in my experience they are usually happy to have a foreigner join them.

There's a company on Suk soi 26 that takes people down to the port and across the river to Bang Krachao, once you're over the river it's all green and jungle but I don't know how they get there, presumably there's pier and a ferry but I go there from the Bang Na when I go there. I don't go for cycling though so not sure of routes.

Strava might be a good resource for you, I don't know if you can look at other peoples' rides without paying the $6/month or $59/year but there'll be rides on there that other people do.

Dear All,

I wondering if I should go on a couple of the Touristy tours to see the routes they take...

Yes, try them e.g. http://www.spiceroads.com/destinations/bangkok; the one to Bank Krapao takes you away from the traffic into a part of the jungle close to Bangkok. It takes a maze of roads and goes through street markets to get you there, so may be difficult to do again on your own, plus they organise a boat to take you there, plus some food on the way. Well worth a try.

Hi SB,

I work for SpiceRoads the company that has been recommended. A guided tour is a great way to see Bangkok as we take you out of the hectic Bangkok traffic and guide you along back-rounds showing you the sights!

We have a variety of tours across Thailand; some of them over half day/full days, overnight or over a few days. I have listed a few of the day tours for you below, but the best thing to do is have a look at the websites www.spiceroads.com where there is more information, photos and reviews.

The Bangkok Jungle - Half Day (25K) cycle

You will experience this amazing wilderness in Bangkok to the locals as Bang Kra Jao just across the river - lush vegetation, waterways, small villages, temples and a tropical paradise of coconut palm!

Chinatown - Half Day (15km)

From the heart of the hustle and bustle you will cross the river to see a lesser-know Chinese-influenced temples, mosques, stop a traditional markets, and taste some traditional food brought to Thailand.

Bangkok Sunset Ride - Half Day (15km)

As the sun set, the lights of Bangkok come and the temperature cools down you will see a new perspective of Old Rattanakosin with illuminated temples that sparkle, and a flower market coming to life.

Floating Market - 1 Day (30-35km)

Relaxing boat rider through the markets and orchards gives you firsthand glimpse of daily life along the canal, then a cycle on small country roads that provides further insight into Thai life.

Please feel free to email me [email protected] if you have any further questions.

Cheers,

Sally
