As the title says you get out of life what you put in to it. As a guest here In thailand one must follow the rules respect the people and culture. But time time and time again you hear the same old garbage from the crittens complianing about how they got ripped off by some thai chick they themselves were exploiting.

There come here wet behind the ears and try to do the samething's they did where they come from expecting different results. First of all your not home laws are different here women are the same all over though. If you took the time and effort to talk with these ladies you might see some are from poor families trying to earn a living.

Do you honestly think these women choose to sell there bodies to old men, fat men ugly men? Bet 90% would jump at the chance of a good paying job to live in nice place enough money to buy new clothes, food, help there family out and still be able to save some for rainy day. Myself I know the answer After being here a while seeing what's going on watching how people react and how try treat others. Most of the ladies are decent women caught in this ugly cycle trying to keep there head above water.

I have one such lady who lives next door New guy every night heard crying a few times late at night. Once when at the pool saw her crying handed her my towel to dry her tears we talked for a couple hours. she told me her Mom was sick and she was going to visit her , I told her Mom would like that, she went on to say her had cancer and she was sending her for her treatment so that is why she was doing her present work. Her Mom didn't know she was sleeping with men for money and she was ashamed of what she is doing.

After a bit she said her Mom thinks that she has boyfriend that is why she sends so much money to her. She had just been told by her sister her mom was going to die stage 4 cancer. I felt so sad for her I said if you ever need anything let me know. A few weeks later she came by to say her Mom is in hospital and not looking good she asked me to come with her to the hospital so she could meet me She wanted me to pose as her boyfriend. She knew her Mom was going to die but wanted her last days to be as happy as possible and didn't want her Mom to worry about her. So I agreed to do it.

While at hospital with her Got meet the rest of her family all good people not rich by no means but not dirt poor either. They made a good living They were the salt of the Earth shared whatever they had. Her Mom though old and wornout bt sharp on her wit spoke a little english and was way smarter than her daughter thought. She had me sit with in her hospital room and we talked she told I know what my daughter is doing to make a living ,but I know my daughter loves me very much. She then says she told me about you I know your just a friend not her boyfriend, don't tell her I know it would make her sad So I promised her not to say a word.

A few days later her Mom passed away. We left and returned to Bangkok this young lady was sad at Mom's passing a few days later she comes over to thank me for what I did and told me she was going to look for a real job. I asked her what type of work She office work if she can find.

About a week later A company I use to work for opened an office in Bangkok and needed help in it I ran into a guy I trained and told him I knew someone. I brought her to his office he interviewed her hired her on the spot.After a month he called me and said man was I gald I ran into you that girl you sent me is great a real big help.

She is in chsrge of HR department making damn good money now. Every week she always stopping by brining me something. Also The guy that hired her well there starting to date. Seems they hit off real good. So what I'm trying to say don't judge all by the lemons you pick and maybe if you look deep enough you might find a diamond. I live my life that way and all amazed at what pops up. So get out what you put in.

Great story probably more suited to Stickman though. Please excuse me but sometimes I am prone to cynicism. So an ex-bar girl with a rudimentary education at best, gets employed in a office job in Bangkok for a position normally held by somebody with a university degree at least and now she runs the HR department. Her name wouldn't be Erin Brokavich would it? I could go on and on about this one. Basic principle being though many bargirls actually love their work and the opportunities that come from fleecing falangs, which is why guys continually think their hardly done by little darling is going to finish working bar and then surprisingly ends back up there again when his back is turned. There are exceptions of course and they are far from bad girls, but not many have been "forced" into it I can assure you. I know many, many Thais that put in 12 hour minimum days and fail to see what they are getting out of it. Survival for sure month to month, but not much else.

And on top of that you can earn 5-100 times what a 7-11 or office girl can earn

To an extent, for sure the OP has a point in that many of these girls are just stuck in a cycle due to unfortunate circumstances and/or making bad decisions, but also AnotherOneAmerican's perspective is also true that they are often lazy and going for the easier money. Both stances are generalizations and won't apply to all.

I would add that some of these girls are just plain addicted, stupid or inept and are their own worst enemy. Those tend to have a love/hate relationship with their lifestyle and chosen career, so once the cash cow comes they blow it and end up back at square one.

Also, for some of them it's not so much about fleecing farang as a career option, but more a naive buying into a warped fantasy whereby they are doing this kind of work entirely as a means to the end of permanently getting a man to 'take care', ie. fund her and her family for the future, at which point they either become like a 'good' lady and change their work or use their new man's resources to fund a business; or they become a full time house wife.

These ladies who bought into the fantasy are the ones who believe most farang are rich and nicer than Thai men. Problem is, for the stupid or somehow addicted ones, they blow it all and lose their cash cow.

In my view it seems there are a number of different types, some of whom would be:

* Unfortunate nice girls who might eventually come good

* The manipulative career scammers

* Stupid or addicted ones incapable of permanently improving their lives

* Ones with a plan, in it for as long as it lasts until it's time to head back to the farm and use all that banked money for improving the lot of the next generation

There's probably other variants or cross-fertilizations for the list, but really these girls are the same as any other aspect of humanity: generalizations can only go so far to be useful as people come in many different shades and hues.

And that's what makes life interesting
