I lived in Korat for many years which also had a US base at one time. I can't say I noticed any particularly tall women around town though? What I have noticed is that since the 80's,Thais are generally larger, likely due to improved nutrition and a better lifestyle.

On my last visit to TL a few weeks ago, I made a rare visit to Soi Cowboy, to a bar I remember from way back when the girls were cute and didn't have the paunches and midriff fat that most seem to sport today. Of course they all smiled back in the day as well, whereas now they shuffle in a daze until they can escape back to their phones.

That said, much older and wiser than the gregarious youth I once was, it must be difficult to look enthusiastic when you're surrounded by a mostly aging clientelle. I won't vist Cowboy or the other venues again, the bar scene really does seem to have had its day.

Yes, this could be a valid reason. Scientific studies suggest that the people grow taller when they consume more protein in childhood. This is why, BTW, people generally are taller nowadays than say 50 y ago, - protein consumption has exploded over the period.

My wife is much taller than the average Thai. But she is from Prachuap Kiri Khan.

My Thai wife is taller than me.....there are some factors we are not seeing. During the Chinese culture revolution many Chinese fled from the disaster there. They came to Thailand, and eventually married a Thai girl while claiming to be Thai. In manty Chinese provences the people are in fact tall. Even taller on average than Caucasians.

Being Chinese in Thailand was not a safe thing to be. The Chinese were still looking for people who left China. So many claimed to be Thai.

Even today many half Chinese will not admit it.

If you are curious about it, find out if a lot of Chinese setteled in Udon Thani. Immigrants tend to cluster......

The only really tall ones I've seen up here are of the 3rd gender. I will agree on the Ban Dung ladies that I have met, very pretty. I hear there are a few Lao ladies someplace in Ban Dung also...lol. Gotta' luv the Lao ladies, even if they are just as evil as their Issan sisters.
