BANGKOK, June 5 -- The Dermatological Society of Thailand (DST) warned today that getting a 'nose filler' can cause blindness, revealing that eight Thai patients have found to be negatively affected by the injection process and that only one has been cured.

Society Chairman Dr Noppadol Noppakhun, in conjunction with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand (RCOPT), told the public of the danger of receiving a nose filler injection under the eyes, as it could clog blood vessels there, especially those nourishing the eyes, and that the clogging causes blindness.

The physicians warned that nose filler injections should be avoided absolutely, as it could cause blindness or cause the skin around the injected area to become dead.

The dermatological society press briefing today featured a 33-year old patient who has undergone a nose filler procedure and suffered the side effect of a wound, which could not be healed after three years of treatment.

RCOPT President Dr Paisarn Ruamwiboonsuk said there are at least 41 national and international medical journals that reported that around 61 patients within Thailand and around the world have been suffering from the side effects of filler injections.

The journals also revealed that up until now, 44 Korean and three American patients have been blinded by the injections, while Thailand has confirmed that eight patients have been blinded, with only one patient cured. (MCOT online news)

"The journals also revealed that up until now, 44 Korean and three American patients have been blinded by the injections, while Thailand has confirmed that eight patients have been blinded, with only one patient cured."

Still, curing blindness even only once is fairly impressive.

The blindness wasn't cured, eight patients were blinded and one was successfully treated for the effects of the filler, therefore avoiding blindness.

My but sarcasm does pass you by. Read the part of the OP I quoted.

or even the opening paragraph. Eight affected, one cured later says 8 blinded, one cured. Therefore it is claiming that blindness has been cured.

Shocking really. And indicative of modern society.

Imagine feeling so inferior and unhappy with yourself that you need to do crap like that to feel good in yourself.

Then it turns you blind! What a kick in the @ss.

seems a perfect remedy...if you think you're ugly enough to do this and you go blind...well then you don't have to look at yourself anymore..

Win win!!

Som num na

Your not suppose to inject it that deep so as to effect eyes.

No, your not! How stupid. Reminds me of stories in US where clown docs actually injected hardware store silicone into women's buttocks.

In the upper, outer corners of the eyes are ducts called lacrimal ducts; basically little grape shaped glands and with each blink fluid is released, bathes the eye, and is collected in the inner canthus- by the nose, to drain. This enters into the nasolacrimal duct- basically a superhighway to the nose. That's why when we cry our noses get so stuffy, allergies, etc. These clowns are injecting this crap into a cartilaginous area with little fatty tissue to absorb or hold the filler. its no wonder people are getting injured from this stuff. Free, in the eyes, mixing and oxidizing with the salty saline of tears= its a disaster.
