When I used to drive between Chiangmai and Buriram, we used to stop at the Topland Hotel. Not necessarily cheap (1000 Baht/night), but they had a fantastic breakfast and dinner buffets. Well worth the additional cost of the room.......

There are many cheap hotels on either side of the main highway now,if you want to spend a bit more try the Grand Riverside,alternatively search on Agoda and you will find many options as per the below link.

One of the better hotels around but seem to remember paying about 1500 baht a night (was for a large double though).
