What to check?

Featured Replies

Hi guys n gals,

Are there any model specific things to check on a 2nd hand Ninja 250r..?

2012 model with approx 16k on the clock.

Apart from obvious general checks, what should I be looking at closer on this bike?

Dont wanna buy a dud :)

Thanks

Not much to check really except usual basic checks.

The Ninja's are quite bulletproof if treated anywhere near fair

One thing you may want to ask to see is if the service checks in the book

were done/signed off on

1k/6k/12k

12k has the larger check which includes valve check/adjustments etc.

Enjoy the new bike wink.png

Not bought it yet :)

I have seen a scan copy of the service book, 1k and 6k were signed off but 12k wasn't..!! I will have a good look over it and take it for a proper test run (will leave my passport)..

Thanks anyway

Not too worry much about the 12k not being done.

If the bike starts right up & sounds ok

there is a good chance the valves didn't need adjustment anyway.

Also service here is inexpensive as you know & you can have it done after

you buy. The next service ( a minor one ) is due at 18k anyway

PS: maybe use that info as a bargaining tool to drop price a bit ;)

If I like it and think to buy it, I will use every thing I find as a bargaining point :)

It is a buyers market for these 250s I guess, since the 300s have come on the scene..!

Just want a little run around until the Yam MT 07 shows it's face....

Check the front disk break to see how much wear if there is a lot of wear on the pad the bike may have been ridden a bit hard.

Cornish what kind of price you seeing for a 2012?

I only ask because if it is anywhere near 100k look around

for a 2013 instead.Which are popping up for 110-120k & may be bargained lower I bet.

The 2013 for all intents is the 300 with less stroke, no slipper clutch &

28 instead of 32mm throttle bodies.

But that aside it shares all other parts

In 2013 the Ninja underwent a lot of changes

things like better full alum cylinder block with with nikasil plated cylinders,

better cooling jacket, increased oil capacity/cooling + many other things

If your planning to keep the bike & price is close may be worth it to you?

If the bike (or any bike) has rigid aftermarket footpegs then see if they are at the right perpendicular angle to the bike.

If you crash rigid pegs the frame often warps and the Ninja has a mild steel chassis.

I've warped a Ninja frame doing a very slow low slide because the rigid pegs sent all the enegy to the frame to dissapate.

Thanks guys, good advice...

It is on at 85k but I reckon that could be knocked down a fair bit considering what I know of the circumstances :)
