332
A Burmese crab fishing boat sank just off shore, killing all the crabs through shock, which then all washed ashore. Love Thailand. Thailand good. Smile. Edited June 8, 2014 by
thumper101
Hope these crabs don't end up on local somtam stalls. TIT, anything for a quick baht.
shirtless
I read there is hundreds of tonnes of highly contaminated water being released every day at Fukushima , could this be the cause., lets hope not otherwise the ecosystems within the oceans are in deep trouble.

Popular Post chooka
I would never go into the polluted waters of Thailand. Filthy disgusting beaches. Chemicals and raw sewage being pumped into the waters daily, dead animals and rubbish floating around.
Payboy
Phuket - now you can also get crabs on the beach.
Popular Post ClutchClark
The earlier posts already summarize the event: --Fukushima Ice Wall is irrelevant to this incident. --The pollution in the waters around Phuket are obviously toxic and many sources have been identified for years. --Someone should document the transport of all this biomass to the landfill and its destruction to allay the very real concern it will find its way into the human food chain. Hopefully, this event will find its way to tourist websites so that tourists can learn the truth of this vacation destination. Perhaps the best chance Thailand has of improving its environmental destruction is with a lowering of tourists numbers. I am truly heart broken that a culture that is so intertwined with the water ( both ocean and rivers) throughout its history has lost every connection it once had with this life source.

marko kok prong
Maybe it has something to do with the polluted water in those klongs, i noted on the Thai govt met site Phuket has had some heavy rain,i would suspect this could have washed the blackwater out and killed the unfortunate crabs. More than likely. The BOD of that klong water would be easily enough to suck all the oxygen out of shallow water.

Not suggesting you are incorrect; however, those are larger crabs and I am not certain they are found at the shallow depths and near enough to shore for what you describe. That klong water is some really toxic effluent, isn't it?

EBlair48
A couple of weeks ago there were dozens of dead baby jellyfish on Banana Beach between Bang Tao and Nai Thon. The bright blue kind... The ocean is dying yet we all still using plastic and throwing it away as if that makes it actually go away. It ALL has to be recycled... endlessly.. I'm sure radiation is having an affect, probably not here, yet but west coast of US. Probably in a few years - thanks to Japanese fear of loss of face- the entire globe will be poisoned. Glad I'm not any younger. Truly think my generation has seen the best of the planet.
rhythmworx
Inexperienced scuba divers and fisherman are doing more damage to the sea floor than plastic bottles. So is mother nature itself, not to mention polyps and beasts like the crown of thorns.
