Bangok Work Permit - Syphilis Blood Test?

Featured Replies

Three or four years back, I went to the clinic that had always issued me my medical certificates and the doctor asks if this is for my WP? Yes so I need to go to the hospital because he doesn't have the testing facilities for Syphilis. 45 mins later and a few (3 or 4) hundred Baht at a large private hospital (specialists in Diabetes) on Rama 4 road and I have the certificate.

The syphilis test is required when working in the bar only.

It's required for any job.

Childish post removed, please post this things in the Pub.

Blood test requirements includes HIV I think too? Talk to your Visa company.

And here starts the rumour mongering...NO. Only syphilis. A simple pin prick on the fingertip, or, if you want to go to a private hospital, B1500.

For me they took a tube of blood. I did not need one the first time i got WP, but at renewal. think i payed 350B

The syphilis test is required when working in the bar only.

I work for a IT company. Still needed one at renewal.

And what are the consequences?

If you have ever had syphilis, even when effectively treated, that fact will always show up in subsequent blood work.

Does that mean that if you have ever had syphilis, however long ago, you will never get a work permit? Or do you have to show a level of infection that is significant?

I would assume the syphilis test is the same as the syphilis test they like to have for the non immigrant O-A visa. That's a test for the third step of syphilis

No need for blood test on 3rd stage syphilis, you'll have holes in your face...

Read my post again. And see if I wrote blood test.......

It's even required when you apply for the non O-A visa

In blood work? Please explain your thinking

We only had to have an aids test 2 years ago. Not sure if that has changed

I'm not a doctor, though I did play one on TV

Hey everyone! George Clooney's on the forum.

My syphillis test for the WP was done at a local clinic and the blood sample sent away for testing with next day results. Pretty straightforward.

yes - if the test used is to detect antibodies then a further test is required to decide if you have the disease or just had an infection before that has been cleared.

you can get results same day in most places.

ine has to question why this patellar, urable disease hs been singled out....I know there has been an increase in detected infections but it doesn't necessarily relate to foreigners.

No HIV test. It's OK to have HIV but not elephantiasis.

I think you are basing your argument here on your own prejudices about HIV?

Sorry if that sounds a bit obscure. It's a term used in the UK. At the GP's surgery I go to the Dr will likely say, "We've had your blood work back etc".

It's just a fancy way of saying "a group of tests" I guess. But hey, what's a profession without a round about way of expressing everyday concepts??

The doctor doesn't have to perform any specific test for any of the diseases because they are all terminal diseases which would be obvious from a basic physical examination.

Maybe the government does in your opinion. Because it is correct that no HIV test is requiree.

No antibody test is required. The doctor has to confirm that you don't have THIRD STAGE syph.

And syph is not singled out, there is a list of diseases. Maybe some kind soul can post the list, so that these rumours stop.

I wrote about the diseases for getting the non O-A visa. Those on that list are not all terminal and a doctor can't see them all from a basic examination.

There used to be an HIV test required for a WP many moons ago, for my very first WP nearly 14 years ago we had to get them done, but as far as I am aware there is no legal requirement for an HIV test any more, it stopped a long time ago

However the persons employer might require one, but not a requirement from the DOL to be issued with or renew a WP

May be I am special or may be my accountant is but into my 6th year of WP and never been asked for medical certificate of any kind.

Leprosy

Tuberculosis

Drug Addiction

Elephantiasis

Syphilis 3rd step

I would guess blood and urine samples. At least that's what they do in my home country.
