Work permit for my wife (a US National)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am a UK citizen, my wife (a US national) and I are considering moving from the UK to Thailand later this year. I am a teacher and have hopefully got something sorted, (meaning my permit/ visa will be taken care of). My wife however does not have a job to go to. I was wondering if anyone had been in a similar situation where one person has a work permit, but the other does not? She doesn't want to just go out there and not work - not only will it be a bit boring for her but also we'd like to be able to get some money together whilst out there. Is it possible to go out on a non-immigrant O Visa and switch to a non-immigrant B Visa while there in Thailand in order to get a work permit? Or will she need to have found a job before moving to Thailand?

Thanks so much for reading this, hopefully you can help!

Peter

She could enter on a non-o visa and then look for work. Then after finding work she could apply for a work permit but dependent upon where she applies she might have to go out for a B visa in order to have it issued,

Once you have a work work permit and have started working you can get an extension of stay at immigration. After you have the extension your wife can get one also as your dependent.

I think women teachers are in great demand. Travel is the problem - and maybe low wages.
