Nine provinces will lift the standards of their public toilets to international level

Governors of nine provinces pledge to upgrade public toilets to meet international standards.

The governors signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday with the Health Department to provide adequate number of public toilets in their provinces and also to make them clean and safe.

Watchara Pannachet (วัชระ พรรณเชษฐ์), assistant to the public health minister, said the development of public toilets in these nine pilot provinces is part of the preparations for the World Toilet Conference to be hosted by Thailand late this year.

Mr. Watchara said public toilets for the disabled, pregnant women and the elderly people will also be improved.

The nine provinces are Bangkok, Krabi, Khon Kaen, Chanthaburi, Chiang Rai, Nonthaburi, Phistsanulok, Lop Buri and Amnart Charoen.

I wouldn't be so smug if I were you, public toilets in the west are nothing to write home about either...

Yeah, well at least we got toilet paper in the toilet stalls instead of on the restaurant tables!
