stubuzz Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 My daughter's foreign teacher gave the class a list of short vowel words to learn. Can you spot the mistakes? Cat; mat; leg; men; pig; dig; toy; cow; run; cup.
sirchai Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 (edited) My daughter's foreign teacher gave the class a list of short vowel words to learn. Can you spot the mistakes? Cat; mat; leg; men; pig; dig; toy; cow; run; cup. I don't understand your question at all. These are all short vowel sounds. Nothing wrong with it. No vowel here does the sound as it would when you're saying the ABC.....Couldn't you Google it before? Your foreign teacher was just using a,e,i,o,u vowels that are short ones.- Edited June 14, 2014 by sirchai
stubuzz Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 140 views and nobody spotted that cow and toy do not use a pure vowel sound; they contain diphthongs. Cow- kaʊ; Toy-tɔɪ The short, pure vowel o sound 'ɒ' is used in words like; Top-tɒp or Mop-mɒp
stubuzz Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script> Did the kids learn the sounds? Well yes, the lesson was about how to read/ pronounce short vowel sounds, not diphthongs. Some of the sounds were taught incorrectly, which could lead to reading difficulties.
rijb Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 How were the sounds taught incorrectly? What was the assessment approach? 1
