Chiengmaijoe Posted June 16, 2014 Share Posted June 16, 2014 Does anyone have any experience of watching the late games in bars or restaurants? The way I see it is they either have a lock-in or they open and don't sell alcohol. I'm assuming that restaurants are allowed to open all night but that they can't sell alcohol after 1am. Bars were closed down as early as midnight, and the Zoe / Reggae area soon after. But then that Dutch pub across from there was packed, loud and allowed to go on. As was Spicy on this night, also a good crowd and quite fun actually. And then John's Place also remains a good spot for the football, and probably the best / most reliable one. I'm genuinely wondering if nightlife right now is the best it's ever been during the last 720 years in Chiang Mai. This _because_ tourist bars close around midnight! Before, tourist nightlife was just very spread out, with lots of bars slowly fading to closure. Now *ALL* the staff is out there on the street at the same time around midnight, and the ones still up for a party find their way to Zoe. In the past when you wanted to go to Zoe with one or more friends who are bar staffers you had to basically pay a fee to the bar; that's all gone now, just show up with a truck or van and open the door. (Still wondering what it is in Asian women that makes them trust a guy offering to take them for a party.. And that includes Chinese tourist chicks. ) Fortunately I'm one of the good ones.
