15,000B to Move Inside Bangkok?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I just got off the phone with JVK movers and they told me that I would need to pay 15,000 baht to move inside Bangkok,

This would be PER TRIP, so 2 trips = 30,000.

This seems extremely high to me. I have a ceiling air conditioner, two-seat couch, washing machine, small refrigerator, TVs, couple guitars, and clothes.

This seems like an extremely high price to move a short distance.

Does this sound right?

At the top of most sois there are signs posted (in Thai) offering moving / car rental services, with a mobile phone number. Call them. Alternatively ask a friendly motorcycle from the local queue to help you procure one.

About 10% of the money quoted should suffice.

I paid a total of 14k baht to move the contents of a 4-bedroom house, including motorbikes, bikes, spare air-conditioners, water pumps and other 'life support' stuff (and two shih tzu's) from Udon Thani to Pattaya.

6 wheel truck 2,500 baht

pick up truck 1,500 baht

packing materials 4,500 baht

packing crew 3,000 baht

Where's the mystery?? If you want a bunch of som tam vendors, carrying your personal goods in a dirty truck with no packing materials and no idea that you shouldn't load an anvil on top of a crystal vase, banging the walls of your apartment building, damaging the lift and absolutely no comeback if they lose your precious chattels, then go with Johhny somchai and his feckless friends for 5,000 baht.

Why call a premium international moving company if you are only moving down the road with a box of 1980s video tapes and 5 pairs of pants? Do you go to a BMW dealership if you are looking for a 2nd hand pick up?

Why not get quotes from the other professional movers and see how they compare? Bear in mind that you will be paying for professionals to pack and unpack and put your possessions where want them in the new place, with insurance in the (unlikely) case of damage. Most professional movers also have a minimum charge so if you have only a few items it may nor be cost effective.

I have used JVK and they are worth every penny.
