webfact
CAT Telecom board will not resign and will make overseas tourBANGKOK: -- The board of directors of CAT Telecom Plc will not resign and will carry on with its plan to make a business trip to Japan and the United States.Mr Kittisak Sriprasert, managing director of CAT Telecom Plc, said today (Friday) that resignation was not an issue at the board’s meeting today because the board was not under any pressure to exit the company. He said that the board would follow the directive ordered by the National Council for Peace and Order that all new projects which is worth more than 100 million baht would be put on hold until there is further instruction from the junta.Previously, he explained that only a project which is worth more than 500 million baht required the board’s endorsement.Commenting on the CAT Telecom’s labor union’s criticism of the board’s overseas business trips to Seattle and Japan during July 6-16 which will cost the company 11.4 million baht in spending, Mr Kittisak said that it was normal for the board to make business trips abroad in order to get themselves abreast with new telecom technology. He went on say that he would seek a clarification from the NCPO at a meeting on Saturday about the company’s plan to auction off its 1800 megahertz spectrum. Chris Lawrence
Sounds like an easy practice to target that gets a lot of press and make paddy field workers happy. Why would a public company being paying board members to travel? This is something technical experts in the company would have to do then report back to the board. These practices appear endemic to public companies; there origin and continuance must have had support from the armed services? I wonder what the new gift will be? attrayant
Seattle? What telecom companies are in Seattle? F5 Networks is the only thing that comes to mind, but they're more focused on application delivery than actual telecommunications.
