In Koh Phangan there are lots of houses for rent by the month with an amazing sea view for 8000-16000 baht. Is it easy to find a similar place in Krabi? What area would you recommend to start looking?

Koh Lanta would be what I would recommend, hillsides above Khlong Nin, but be aware low season this side now, big wind and rain onshore (not all the time) so might want to wait until later in the year.

I've seen a couple for 8000 in the low season although most of the ones with a sea view and air con are at the higher end of the range. Small bungalows with kitchen.

Thanks for the Lanta suggestion. My main problem with Lanta is the limited food shopping as I like to cook for myself. I would prefer somewhere on the mainland so I can take my motorbike to a supermarket when I need. I wasn't aware the weather was so bad at the moment but if I come it'll definitely be July.

Ao Nang is great for your shopping needs but you would struggle to find a sea view for anywhere near those prices.
