not sure when it is out, but now appears on there website......... http://www.nissan.co.th/

Your link is to the Nissan website. The new Navara will be out in a few weeks, and they are taking orders now. The Mitsubishi site still shows the current model Triton (unless there has been no change in the outside appearance of the truck).

Where did you get it at that price? I went to the showroom on Sukhumvit (Pattaya) today and the best I could do was 804,000 and the pearl white was going to be an extra 7,000. That really didn't worry me as my preferred colour was Titanium Grey.

There are 3 Mitsubishi dealers on Sukumvit in the Pattaya area. A new dealer in Na Jomtien, and two dealers north of Pattaya, one just past Bangkok Pattaya Hospital on the same side of Sukumvit, and another about 4 kilometers further out on the opposite side of Sukumvit. I went to all 3, but got the best deal at the one just north of BPH. I had a written offer on the Triton from the dealer further north, and they got serious with their price negotiation when I showed them the written offer from the other dealer. I did not go back to the dealer further north, but they probably would have met the price (or beaten it slightly) with the other dealer's offer in hand.

That's the one I went to today, north of BPH. Depends what they offer me for my ten year old Isuzu as well on whether it wold be a good deal or not.

Mate, you seem to be making your decision based on the Sat Nav? I would take the BT50 over the soon to be replaced Triton and put my own Sat Nav in. My "old" Navara didn't come with it as well = it's a 20k option for the receiver thingy. I use a portable GPS (rarely) instead.

I have driven the Triton for a few weeks in the past and did like btw, also drove the BT50 for a couple of days. I would buy the BT50 of the two.

None of the new car/truck dealers will want to buy your 10 year old truck. They don't sell used cars/trucks. They will call a used car tent with whom they have a relationship and he will come and look at your truck and make you an offer. If you accept the offer, you can arrange to sell the truck to him at the same tme that you pick up the new truck and he will pay the price to the new car dealer, who will apply it to the purchase price of the new truck. Very easy, but expect to get less for your truck than you could get for it in a separate private party sale. You can go to the used car tents along Sukumvit and ask how much they will pay for your truck, and sell directly to one of them if one should offer you more for the truck. So, unless you are lucky (or unlucky), the price you should get for your old truck should not vary much dealer to dealer, and if by chance it does, you can always sell it separately. What they will give you for your truck is not, IMHO, a factor in deciding if the dealer is offering a good deal -- they really aren't involved in the used car sale/trade (they may get a small commission from the used car dealer). Unless, of course, you need a certain amount for your used truck to be able to afford the new one, which is a different matter.

My Triton purchase was straight cash, no trade and no financing. They prefer financing, as the finance company gives them a commission on arranging the financing for the car/truck purchase.

Too much of a hassle to try and sell privately. Buyers want you to take your pickup to where they live, test drive, haggle and then say no thanks. I was aware that the new car dealer wasn't buying the car, but the offers may differ from used car dealers.

I think you said your old truck was an Isuzu. For sure I know people who continually trade in old Isuzus for new at a local Isuzu dealer, but I doubt a non-Isuzu dealer would do it. In any case, they all use tent dealers, but I think the used pickup market might be strongest for the Isuzu brand. You may have to consider Isuzu to get a trade in.

Both Mitsubishi and Toyota are prepared to take my Isuzu (as is Isuzu dealership), they have taken photos and details of my old truck and they then ask a used car dealer what they are prepared to pay. What does it matter what brand of car or truck as the new car dealer isn't selling it anyway, but passing it on to the used car dealer.

Yes always traded my old D-Max at Isuzu for a new one, my new truck is a Mazda, also traded the 3 year old D-max at Mazda for the new BT50..

Mazda gave 50,000 baht more than offered at 2 different Tents.. so worth asking

Edit: The Mazda Dealership had the D-Max on the forecourt For Sale.

Not making my decision based purely on the sat/nav, but it is a nice feature to have, and I don't fancy letting a private sat/nav installer pull out the dash of a brand new truck. I may be better of just buying a hand held Garmin for 3000 baht that I can just stick in the glove box. It's not like I'd be using a sat/nav every day.

I would expect the tent price will be at least 50k short of what you could get privately. Probably more.

Last car i sold took in total about four hours of my time. Made about 100k more than i would have done selling to a car tent place. Worth thinking about i'd say.

I'm sure you are correct, but what do you do, sell your old pickup before you buy a new one? Then you have no transport to get around while you are still looking, or buy the new one and have the old one sitting out in the street until you sell it? In Australia I wouldn't hesitate to sell privately because there are many ways to advertise, here it's not quite so easy.

I think that's been made pretty clear in previous posts.

Interesting post. While the new car dealers do not generally sell used cars/trucks, I am sure that they make exceptions when a late model used car/truck in "like new" condition comes through their door. And a new car dealer might put a late model used car on his lot for a few weeks and try to make a few extra Baht, before he sends it down the road to a tent if it doesn't sell quickly -- with a tent's offer in hand, not a lot of risk there. The Toyota dealer in north Pattaya (west side) had a used red Celica Supra on the floor for sale when we were looking at trucks -- just under B2 million as I recall. But, regardless, I think that we can all agree that this exception would not apply to a 10 year old Isuzu truck, unless it has less than 1,000 km on the clock and has sat in a garage untouched for 9.5 of those 10 years.
