Cheapest Accommodations in Bangkok

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi All,

I'm just curious if you guys have any idea about cheap-to-moderate accommodations near or at the city center in Bangkok. As far as I get the listings from Travel portals like hostels.com, agoda etc., I find that most of the hotels near Silom city center are fairly high-priced (coffee1.gif ). But some of these boutique hotels charge you anywhere between Baht 800-1000 per night. I am looking for some relatively cheap, but decent place to stay in Bangkok: i.e., in an area which is most probably not too far from Silom, neither too near to noisy areas like khaosan.

Also, please list if you know any budget accommodations in Pahurat or Yaowarat area. Last time when I was in Thailand, I used to stay at Khaosan, but which proved to be too much noisy and disturbing until I moved into Thonburi.

Thanks in advance.smile.png

800 Baht a night "boutique hotels"......I hardly think so.

Anywhere cheaper in central Bangkok must be choice to say the least! laugh.png

You have no idea, do you? Try the "Nantra" chain of boutique hotels. I stayed in one of their places at Thonglor, it's about a 7-minute walk to Thonglor BTS, and they gave me a deal of 600 baht a night, definitely a boutique style hotel and room. Not a large room but has all the conveniences you would want, and the area is very upscale with a nice mall 1 minute away.

The coup decimated tourist numbers in Bangkok.

Cheap deals everywhere.

hotels.com, bookings.com. agoda.com

Fill your boots

Wow.Normally I never bother checking those sites because the walk-in rate is better but I just checked and there are some great deals around. Decent, central hotels at Khao San rates.

That's a great deal for Nantra....and yes Thonglor is very nice indeed.

However I would describe that chain of rooms as "basic and functional".

Each to their own.

I think you're being a bit harsh - The Nantra Retreat and Spa, Thonglor is currently asking 1.7k Baht per night on the hotel website, 1.4k Baht per night from Agoda and 2k Baht per night on Latestays. Do you have a link to get the 600 Baht rate? I often stay in that part of town when I'm in BKK, and that sounds like a really good deal for that particular property - even if the Group describes its properties as Budget, rather than Boutique.

Thanks to you all guys. I was just looking for a decent accommodation, not preferably a dorm, but a room with shower, AC and a freezer. I don't need a TV, but expect a wifi . I saw somewhere they were giving discounts like in Nasa Vegas Hotel (675 Baht/night) which is reasonable. But I'm not so sure if I could get these at a cheaper rate in China town. I once stayed at Marcopolo Guest house, that's one of my favorite. But they don't have "wifi" in their rooms.

I have heard as cheap as 300-400 baht A night. But your talking about dormitory type stile,no air conditioning. Not my cup of tea

No, I'm not looking for a dorm. I would prefer to stay on the streets than to crowd in a congested dorm given if I don't get rooms to sleep. Yes indeed, you have decent dorms in Tokyo and Hong Kong (Wanchai), but that's a different story.

Not Nantra Retreat and Spa. I meant Nantra de Comfort in Thonglor. Google it.

Nasa Vegas is a 45-year-old giant dump of a hotel right next to noisy railways tracks and not in central Bangkok at all. Skip it. Nantra normally starts from 800 baht (I was lucky to get 600 at the time) and the room has shower, toilet, minifridge, LCD TV with 30+ channels, strong WiFi (free) and a comfortable big bed. A basic breakfast buffet with bread, fruit, cereal and coffee is also included. You'll be hard pushed to find any hotels in Bangkok with a freezer, unless you rent an apartment type room which will generally be at least 2,500 baht a night.

I know it, but I thought you were talking boutique rather than budget, hotels. He may as well stay at the Tune at Asoke.

Just visited the Nantra links. Pretty good given the price range with basic amenities.

You forgot to mention there are two hotels located there.

One is nothing more than a short time hotel used by Thais, the other is an equally impressive dump that will cost the OP 6,900 baht per month.

Walk across the road and he can get the canal boat from Khlong Tan straight to Pratunam, costs about 20 baht.

If the above is too hard hitting on the pocket he can head further up on Ram to such places as Buddy Lodge and rent a room for 3,900 baht per month.

Why TF would anyone need a freezer?

Crown hotel across from Suk 22.

There is a short time hotel on Suk 22 for 400 a night. Across from Queens Park bars.

Honey Hotel on 22 is about 700.

But the best accommodation is a girl with her own room.

To be fair I did look at an 800 Baht a night room on Soi 8 one time....the receptionist squashing the cockroaches with his shoe as we conducted a short tour of the dismal room was the clincher for me.....I'm still waiting for details of all of the boutique hotels available at this price so I can check them out.

Short time hotels eh?.....lmao....and the Honey hotel....sorry prison cells....yes I stayed there once on recommendation from here.

That is if its the one on Soi 17....

Nothing the matter with The Tune Hotel, helpful staff, clean and quiet location.

I agree. It's a decent enough budget hotel. Having a small fridge in the room would be a great improvement though (for me).

Smokes,

The Honey is on Suk 19.

A swimming pool thats no more than a puddle, think I have pissed more water after a night on the piss.

Trust you didnt take one of the deluxe suites in the car park LOL.

Back in the day, about 30 years ago it was probably ok, these days, loved by our CC tourists.

Thank your lucky stars you never made it to the dump on Suk soi 13 that was The Miami.

Could have sworn the graffiti said Chiang Mai Kelly (or whatever other alias he posts under these days) was here.

The beauty of the internet, The Honey, jeez some people recommend that dump of a chippy on Suk 23, four fox sake the boozer was even worse.

Yes Soi 19...thanks for the correction....and letting me laugh at the memory....it really is an awful place.

Its one of those places you take your "girlfriend" to.

However you take your girlfriend to stay elsewhere.

Eff Me, even the girls in Soi Cowboy know its a dump.

Unhelpful post removed, along with a reply quoting it (apologies to that posted, it was a good response)

The OP was very clear. If you have nothing constructive to add, then stay out of the thread. Helpful comments welcome.

In Wong Wien Yai, I often stay at the Isara City Hotel. 560 baht/night, 100+ for the 3rd adult, air con/hot water, mini-fridge, tv, wifi. Family Mart is at the corner, a hole in the wall thai outdoor restaurant is right outside. Robinsons mall is 20 baht motorbike ride, although you could walk. They do often sell out quickly on the weekends. Maybe prices have increased, but I hope not. 560 baht is very good deal for those rooms. There is a famous roundabout near the Robinsons, but the name escapes me. Massage shops for 120 baht/hr in that area.

20-30 baht motorbike ride to bts station, 60ish tuk tuk ride to Little India / Chinatown.

Soi 8 Sukhumvit

Where is this hostel actually situated? Sois are really bit confusing in Bangkok. Any landmark location?

Is it in Maha Nakhon? @ 8 Thanon Sukhum Vit, Khwaeng Khlong Toei, Khet Khlong Toei...

Thanks
