How to do a Thai visa for a 84 day, multiple entry trip?

Featured Replies

I'm American, arriving in BKK Aug. 1st, then going overland to Cambodia Aug. 4th, then flying from Cambodia to Chiang Mai Aug. 20th, then flying from BKK to Katmandu Aug. 27, back to BKK Sept. 29, then to Phil Oct. 4, back to BKK Oct. 20, then fly out of BKK back to US Oct. 23.

Not really much time spent in Thailand, so didn't give much consideration to visa issues until hearing about the new regulations effective Aug. 12.

Would things work out OK for me if I just arrive and get the tourist visa? Would that be renewed upon flying back into Thailand each time?

Thanks much for the help.

John G.

Since you will have onward tickets and will not have any out/in trips you should not have a problem getting a new visa exempt entry (it is not a tourist visa) each time. You will certainly be considered a tourist.

Nobody knows with any certainty what the new rules with be or even if will really happen on Aug. 12th.

Thank you for your reply. I see, for US citizens, it's called a "30 day stay without a visa", correct? So, to clarify if you would, I would just keep getting a new visa exempt ("30 day stay without a visa") upon each re-entry? Thereby essentially resetting the 30 day stay upon each entry? .. I'm just a little concerned, but I'm sure people must do trips like this all the time, going from one country to another, with the total time exceeding 30 days.

Thanks for your help.

It is a 30 day visa exempt entry. You can get them for all all your entries because you will be able to show a ticket out of the country within 30 days for each entry.

People do similar trips all the time.

Sounds good. Thanks again.

As ubonjoe said nobody knows for sure what will happen on the magic date, 12 August. You could get a triple entry tourist visa for the first three entries and then only have to rely on a "visa exempt" entry for the last entry. Sure it will cost you $120 upfront but is the piece of mind worth it?
